Fans express outrage after CMAT's latest single 'censored' by BBC
Fans of popstar CMAT have expressed their outrage after her latest single had its intro 'censored' in its BBC radio debut. The singer's latest album EURO-COUNTRY is set to release in August, with her latest single being the titular EURO-COUNTRY that is about her growing up during the economic crisis of 2008. The song is introduced As Gaeilge with CMAT speaking about 'becoming more invisible,' and while the song's topic has seen acclaim from fans and critics alike, its debut on BBC Radio One caused some controversy as the Irish language intro is nowhere to be heard. Pic: Lorne Thomson/Redferns Fans took to social media to express their outrage at the decision — which the BBC have not given a reason for at the time of writing — with one person writing on Twitter (X) 'never not at it…' 'Radio 1 censored the Irish language intro to Euro-Country by CMAT,' another wrote. 'If a language is considered too political, where does that [leave] Irish people in the view of the BBC?' while another added 'BBC radio 1 editing the Irish language intro of CMAT's new song out before playing it this eve and her confirming she didn't agree or consent to it… weird weird behaviour.' CMAT herself took to Instagram to confirm that it wasn't her decision to remove the intro, saying on her story 'I just wanted to say really quickly that it was not my decision to have the Irish language edited out of the first ever play of EURO-COUNTRY on radio.' CMAT's new song EURO-COUNTRY is introduced in Irish, but in its radio debut on BBC the intro was removed; with CMAT herself saying that she wasn't behind the decision. Pic: CMAT/Instagram 'I dunno if it was a mistake or what happened but that was not my decision, however, [the BBC] have just gotten in contact and said that they are going to play the Irish language intro full version of EURO-COUNTRY tomorrow [Wednesday] to make up for it.' CMAT added that she has no idea who edited out the intro, adding 'that was crazy of them,' and added that the line 'I was 12 when the da's started killing themselves all around me' was also edited out; but admitted 'that was more understandable.' She then went on to tell her followers to stream the song and watch the music video which was filmed in Santry's Omni shopping centre; adding 'I jumped into the fountain in OMNI shopping centre in Santry for it and smelled very bad for 1 week. Táim an-bródúil as an fís seo!' CMAT's newest album EURO-COUNTRY will release on August 29. The album releases on August 29.
