Witkoppen empowers mothers during breastfeeding week
Witkoppen Clinic joined the global celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, from August 1 to 7, embracing the theme: Prioritising Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.
Throughout the week, the clinic's dedicated preventative team worked to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding, especially to new and expecting mothers, with the knowledge and confidence to embrace breastfeeding as a vital part of their child's health journey.

Led by dietician Elmare Theron and nutrition assistant Asanda Nzimande, daily educational group sessions provided a safe and supportive environment where mothers could learn, share their challenges, and ask questions.
These sessions highlighted the nutritional, emotional, and immunological benefits of breastfeeding, describing it as more than food, but as a foundation for bonding and lifelong health.
'The response from the mothers was inspiring,' said business development assistant for marketing and communications Sbonga Shange. 'Many women, who felt uncertain about breastfeeding, left feeling confident, reassured, and supported.'
The week was marked by moments of learning, laughter, and heartfelt connection between women walking similar paths. Generous donations allowed the clinic to present mothers with thoughtful gifts as a reminder that they are valued and celebrated.
'This year's initiative, not only informed, but uplifted mothers,' added Shange. 'Reinforcing the idea that community-driven support can save lives and inspire change. Witkoppen's preventative team has, once again, demonstrated the power of compassion and knowledge in shaping healthier futures for children and families.'
