Man Accused of Killing and Dismembering His Ex-Girlfriend Allegedly Made Chilling Google Searches amid Her Disappearance
DeAndre Booker allegedly asked Google questions regarding gun silencers and where trash goes once it has been picked upNEED TO KNOW DeAndre Booker, who is on trial for the murder of ex-girlfriend Ashley Elkins, allegedly made suspicious Google searches around the time of her disappearance Booker allegedly searched for things like, 'Can you track location when phone is off' and 'What happened to trash after its picked up' Booker has been charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment and mutilation and concealing a deathA man on trial for the murder of his ex-girlfriend allegedly asked Google chilling questions leading up to and following her disappearance. DeAndre Booker of Roseville, Mich., was arrested in connection to the disappearance of ex-girlfriend Ashley Elkins, on Jan. 8. Elkins, a 30-year-old hairstylist and mother of two, was last seen leaving her home to run errands in Warren, Mich., on Jan. 2. Elkins' body has not been found, despite an intensive search by authorities. Booker, 32, was charged in January with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment and mutilation and concealing a death, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. During a court appearance on Friday, Aug. 8, Detective Chris Moran of the Roseville Police Department testified that he found Google searches on Booker's phone from the days surrounding Elkin's disappearance that appeared to connect Booker to the alleged crime, per NBC affiliate WDIV. Those alleged searches included phrases like, "[T]elling god i want to kill someone," '9mm silencer roseville,' 'shoot gun through pillow,' 'Can you track location when phone is off' and 'What happened to trash after its picked up,' per WDIV. The prosecuting attorney on the case then reportedly asked Moran why he believed those specific searches were relevant to the case, to which the detective replied, 'Based on the information we had on what could've happened at the time, these appeared the most relevant,' WDIV reported. The detective also said he found blood in the dumpster at Booker's apartment, which lead him to believe the last Google search regarding trash pickup would be particularly relevant if Booker 'had placed the victim in the dumpster,' adding, 'He would definitely be very concerned as to where the trash would go with the body,' according to WDIV. While previously speaking to PEOPLE, Booker's defense attorney, Robbie Lang, said that he had no comment on his client's Internet searches. "I don't have any real comment on what people search or don't search [on the Internet] and I don't know where that quantifies as guilt for anything," Lang said at the time. PEOPLE reached out to Lang, as well as the Roseville Police Department and the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, for comment on Sunday, Aug.10, but did not receive an immediate response. Booker pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. His trial is scheduled to resume on Friday, Aug. 15, per Law&Crime. Read the original article on People

Suspect accused of killing Warren mom Ashley Elkins in court for preliminary exam
The man accused of killing Warren mother Ashley Elkins, who has been missing since January, was back in court Wednesday for Day 1 of the preliminary exam. DeAndre Booker stood before a judge, who at one point told Booker he could sit down. However, Booker remained silent and continued standing while glaring at each witness in the stand with a chilling smirk on his face. Elkins, 30, was reported missing in January. Booker, who investigators said was Elkins's ex-boyfriend, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment or mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual. He is also charged with lying to police in a related case. Elkins's body was never found. During Wednesday's hearing, multiple witnesses took the stand to testify, including Elkins's mother, Monica Elkins, a Warren police officer, a third witness the media has been asked not to show or identify out of a concern for safety, and another officer. While on the stand, Monica Elkins says she last heard from her daughter on Jan. 1. She claims she became worried when Elkins didn't respond to her numerous text messages or calls, which was unlike her. Monica Elkins says she went to Booker's apartment to see if her daughter was there. When asked why, Monica says her daughter was having financial problems, and Booker was one to help out. "When did this concern start? In the afternoon or evening?" asked the defense attorney. "It really started when she texted me 'Amen' and I called her, and she wouldn't answer the phone. That's when I got concerned," Monica Elkins said. "Why did you go to the defendant's apartment? How did you choose that location?" asked the prosecutor. "Because my daughter said Ashley's phone location was there at the time," Monica Elkins said. It was also pointed out in court that after Ashley Elkins was reported missing, the third witness said that at one point while on the phone with Booker, a former lover, she had seen police outside his apartment. He allegedly asked her if police were looking through the trash. Booker is due back in court on Aug. 8.

Preliminary hearing set for man charged in missing Detroit-area woman's death
A preliminary examination for 32-year-old DeAndre Booker, who is accused of killing Warren, Michigan, mother Ashley Elkins, has been set for later this year. According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, the hearing is scheduled for Aug. 1, 6 and 8. Elkins, 30, was last seen on Jan. 2, 2025, and was reported missing by her family the following day. Investigators allege that Booker, who they say is Elkins' ex-boyfriend, killed the mother of two in his Roseville apartment before disposing of her body. Despite searches, including in a landfill, her remains have not been found. Investigators searched Booker's apartment on Jan. 7. During a hearing earlier this year, an officer testified to finding a large amount of blood in the bathroom, adding that DNA testing confirmed the blood was from Elkins. Booker is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment or mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual. He is also charged with lying to police in a related case. He is currently held in Macomb County Jail without bond. "The charges in this case are as serious as they come. We believe the evidence clearly supports the allegation that she was murdered and discarded without dignity. We are committed to seeking justice for her and her loved ones. The preliminary examination will be an important step in that process," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a statement. Note: The video above previously aired on Feb. 5, 2025.

Vigil held for Ashley Elkins as family and friends continue searching for her
(CBS DETROIT) — Hundreds of people gathered Saturday evening in Roseville for a candlelight vigil in honor of Ashley Elkins, the 30-year-old mother of two who has been missing for over three weeks. The family decided to hold the vigil outside her ex-boyfriend's apartment complex, where Elkins was last heard from on Jan. 2 "Right now with everybody here, it shows everybody cares, you know? And I thought nobody cared at all, but now I see that people care now," said Monika Elkins, Ashley's mother. "The thing is we still don't have her body and I can't get rest until I lay her to rest." Nearly a dozen law enforcement agencies continue to be involved in the case, and search crews have moved more than 100,000 tons of garbage and debris at a landfill aiming to find clues of Elkins' whereabouts. Her family continues to be grateful for the ongoing efforts, even while grieving. "They've been absolutely amazing working with the family, and so they deserve recognition," said Maurice Morton, Ashley Elkins' uncle. While Ashley Elkins is presumed to be dead, some family members said they're still holding out hope, and for many of them, faith is helping them get through this agonizing tragedy. "Oh god, may we continue to lift up Ashley tonight oh god. We lift up everyone that loved and supported her," a pastor said Saturday. "God, we thank you for the love, the joy and the laughter. God, we thank you for the good times and the memories that continue to live within our hearts. God, we thank you for justice and peace tonight." As the family came together to honor her life, Monika Elkins made one last plea to her daughter's ex-boyfriend. "If Dre is watching, I just want to tell him please let us know where she is. Whatever happened, it happened, just give us closure." DeAndre Booker, the ex-boyfriend of Ashley Elkins, was arrested in Flint on Jan. 8 in connection to her disappearance. He is charged with lying to a police officer. During a probable cause conference Wednesday, a judge denied a request for Booker's bond to be reduced. Judge Joseph Boedeker said he believes Booker is a flight risk. There is a GoFundMe page to support Ashley Elkins' two sons, which has already raised over $12,000.
