SANDAKAN: A 25-year-old non-citizen was killed in a road accident involving two vehicles at Batu 15, Jalan Labuk, on Saturday evening. According to Sandakan District Police Chief, ACP Ashmon Bajah, the incident occurred at around 5.55 pm when a Proton Saga FLX, travelling from the Mile 16 towards the Mile 14 roundabout, suddenly lost control. 'The vehicle then hit the road divider and overturned before crashing into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. 'As a result of the collision, the motorcycle was pushed into the left lane and subsequently struck by a Toyota Avanza that was in that lane,' he said in a statement to the media. The victim, who was the motorcycle rider, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan. The vehicle struck a road divider, overturned, and collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact pushed the motorcycle into the left lane, where it crashed into a Toyota Avanza. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. SANDAKAN: A total of 54 online fraud cases were recorded in Sandakan between January and April this year, resulting in losses amounting to RM4.3 million. District police chief ACP Ashmon Bajah said most victims were aged between 31 and 50, with 61.11 per cent being men and 38.89 per cent women. He added that 170 cases were reported in 2024 overall, with losses exceeding RM23 million. Ashmon said victims came from all walks of life including professionals, business owners, and retirees.
