
Foreigner killed in accident in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A 25-year-old non-citizen was killed in a road accident involving two vehicles at Batu 15, Jalan Labuk, on Saturday evening. According to Sandakan District Police Chief, ACP Ashmon Bajah, the incident occurred at around 5.55 pm when a Proton Saga FLX, travelling from the Mile 16 towards the Mile 14 roundabout, suddenly lost control. 'The vehicle then hit the road divider and overturned before crashing into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. 'As a result of the collision, the motorcycle was pushed into the left lane and subsequently struck by a Toyota Avanza that was in that lane,' he said in a statement to the media. The victim, who was the motorcycle rider, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan. Unemployed man jailed six years for beating teenage son with stick

The incident led the frightened boy to lodge a police report, and Shahmar was arrested the same day. Father jailed, caned for sexual assault on daughter

Sessions Court Judge Marlina Ibrahim delivered the verdict after the man maintained his guilty plea during the facts and sentencing hearing. Advertisement The perpetrator received a seven-year jail term and two strokes for touching the 13-year-old victim's private parts on Dec 18, 2024, in Menumbok, Beaufort, with an additional two years imposed due to the familial relationship. Deputy Public Prosecutor Afiqah Alya called for a deterrent sentence, highlighting the gravity and prevalence of such offences, despite the unrepresented man's plea for leniency. Four arrested in Kota Belud over ketum processing, sales

District Police Chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain said the arrests were made by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Kota Belud District Police Headquarters between May 24 and June 5. Advertisement Raids were carried out in Kampung Taun Gusi, Tampasuk 1, Kampung Suang Punggur, Kampung Pintasan, and Kampung Ambong, based on intelligence gathered by police. A total of 42 bottles of ketum juice and several cooking tools believed to be used in the preparation of the substance were seized during the raids.
