APGC Junior Championship: Ranveer, Krish finish fifth in boys' team competition; Saanvi, Kashika end eighth in girls' team event
New Delhi [India], May 30 (ANI): Indian amateurs Ranveer Mitroo and Krish Chawla registered a fifth-place finish in the boys' team competition after posting a combined total of four-over 430 in the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship here at the Hong Kong Golf Club on Thursday. The Chinese pair of Jin Heng Yan and Jin Han won the boys' team title with a tally of four under 422. Rainy weather conditions made it difficult for lower scores. However, Ranveer continued his golden run in the event by submitting a modest two-over 73 in the third and final round to finish sixth in the individual event. His overall total read two-under 211, the best among the four-member team sent by the Indian Golf Union (IGU). Krish finished 22nd with a three-round total of six-over 219. New Zealand's Cooper Moore clinched the boys' individual title by a two-stroke margin over Tuan Anh Nguyen of Vietnam with a three-day total of nine-under 204. Ranveer, 16, felt that the tournament offered him an 'invaluable learning experience' and that he gained a better understanding of his strengths and areas of growth. 'Competing in a field like the APGC Juniors has given me a significant confidence boost. Being surrounded by talented players and experiencing the competitive atmosphere has motivated me to push my limits. I realised that I can hold my own against strong competitors, which has reinforced my belief in my abilities,' Ranveer said later. 'The support from the Indian Golf Union has been instrumental in my development as a golfer. They provide access to competitive opportunities that are crucial for my growth,' the 16-year-old added. In the individual girls' event, Saanvi Somu carded a two-over 74 in the final round to end her campaign in a creditable 10th place. Her compatriot, still recovering from illness, posted an improved three-over-75 to finish the tournament in 19th position. The Indian pair of Kashika and Saanvi finished eighth with a combined score of 16-over 448. APGC Junior Championship: Riding on Ranveer's back-to-back 69, India jumps to T-2 spot in boys' team competition
New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Delhi lad Ranveer Mitroo submitted a second consecutive card of two-under 69 to help India jump to tied second place in the boys' team competition along with compatriot Krish Chawla after the second round of the ongoing Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship here at the Hong Kong Golf Club. With an overall total of one-under 283, the Indian duo are six strokes behind the leaders Parin Sarasmut and Warut Boonrod of Thailand. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) sent a four-member team to compete in the prestigious tournament organised by APGC. Individually, Ranveer maintained his fourth position in the individual boys competition. Krish improved his overnight tied 16th place after posting a two-over 73 to end the second round in sole 15th position with an overall total of three-over 145. Thailand's Parin Sarasmut fired a five-under 66 to share the lead with Tuan Anh Nguyen of Vietnam with matching totals of eight-under 134, a release said. After five straight pars, Ranveer birdied the sixth hole from five feet after his approach landed 15 yards short of the flag on the right rough. However, the 16-year-old stumbled upon a bogey on the next hole only to make amends with back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. On the back nine, he birdied Hole no.s 14, 17 and 18 against a double bogey on the 10th and bogey on the 12th hole. Reflecting upon his round, Ranveer said: 'Round 2 was great but I made a lot of mistakes. I made six birdies, one double bogey and two bogeys. I again shot 69 (-2). I am sitting in fourth place out of 32 amateurs after two rounds. I was decent off the tee and approach, good putting and chipping. But I dropped a lot of shots from close range today.' In the individual girls event, Saanvi Somu carded a three-under 69 to jump to the joint ninth spot as compatriot Kashika Mishra had a disappointing round of 10-over 82 fighting a bout of viral fever. The Indian pair of Kashika and Saanvi were ranked sole seventh with a combined score of 11-over 299 after Round 2. In the mixed team event, the Indian pair of Krish and Saanvi were lying in tied 10th position at five-over 289.(ANI)

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be well represented at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) Championship this week, with three of the country's top female amateurs set to compete at Hoiana Shores Golf Club in Vietnam. Intissar Rich, Hannah Alan, and Lara El Chaib will take on the region's best in the seventh edition of the championship, which was established by The R&A and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) to provide a platform for elite women's amateurs. The stakes are high, with the winner earning invitations to three Major championships—the AIG Women's Open, Amundi Evian Championship, and Chevron Championship—as well as prestigious events like the ISPS Handa Australian Open and Augusta National Women's Amateur. A Strong Contingent Intissar Rich heads into the tournament in fine form, having just won the Trump Ladies Open at Trump International Golf Club, Dubai. A regular fixture at the top of the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Order of Merit, she will be looking to carry that momentum onto the international stage. Joining her are two college golfers based in the United States. Hannah Alan, a freshman at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, is making her second WAAP appearance after competing in the 2021 edition in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Lara El Chaib, a freshman at Jacksonville State University, Florida, is set for her tournament debut, currently holding an NCAA ranking of 594. A New Venue, A Fresh Challenge This year's WAAP will be played in Vietnam for the first time, with Hoiana Shores Golf Club providing a true links-style test. Coastal winds, undulating fairways, and deep bunkers will challenge the region's best amateurs as they compete for a career-changing title. With Rich, Alan, and El Chaib carrying the UAE's hopes, all eyes will be on how they rise to the occasion on one of amateur golf's biggest stages.
