Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office opened at PINS

LAHORE: With prime focus on research initiatives in the Institute, the Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office has been formally inaugurated here at the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS) on Saturday. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Dr. Almas Bashir. Executive Director PINS Prof. Dr. Asif Bashir, Principal Ameer uddin Medical College Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal and senior professors and health professionals attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Asif Bashir emphasized that PINS is committed to enhancing healthcare services in collaboration with international institutions. The establishment of the Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office marks a significant step towards expanding the institute's research initiatives, enabling young doctors and professionals to benefit from dedicated facilities and resources for research and editorial work, he said. In his address, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal underscored the vital role of medical research in the development of healthcare system worldwide. He emphasized that while Pakistan has no shortage of talent, the focus should now be shifted towards self-reliance, urging professionals to contribute actively to research and innovation across all healthcare domains instead of relying solely on external support. He stressed the importance of research in the field of neuroscience, noting that PINS continues to progress steadily in the domain of neurosurgery. He expressed his confidence that Pakistani surgeons and medical professionals will continue to make the nation proud through excellence in clinical and research fields. Principal LGH and ED PINS jointly reiterated that institutions are strengthened not by infrastructure alone but through mutual cooperation and cohesive teamwork. They highlighted the inseparable relationship between LGH and PINS, describing it as 'two souls in one body,' both committed to ensuring optimal patient care and clinical services through unified efforts. They reaffirmed their dedication to implementing the health initiatives of Chief Minister Punjab Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif by providing integrated treatment platforms for patients at both PINS and LGH. They stressed that delivering high-quality healthcare to all patients without discrimination remains their shared mission and no effort will be spared in achieving this goal. Among others, Prof Qasim Bashir, Prof Mohsin Zaheer, Prof Hafiz Abdul Majeed, Prof Shehzad Hussain Shah, Prof Naghmana Mazhar, Prof Saira Bilal, Prof Mudassar Aslam and Medical Superintendent Dr Umar Ishaq were present. LAHORE: Terming the White Coat as a symbol of sanctity of the medical profession, Principal of Ameer uddin Medical College, Prof. Dr. M. Al-Fareed Zafar called upon the future doctors to make service to humanity their core value, win hearts through compassion and uphold the honour of this coat which signifies the noble tradition of ailing humanity. While addressing the first-year students of the MBBS session 2025–29 during the White Coat and oath-taking ceremony held at Lahore General Hospital, he stated that White Court recognized as a symbol of peace, and doctors work tirelessly to provide relief and comfort to their patients, often at the expense of their own rest and priorities. He pointed out that doctors are held in high regard by society which places a great responsibility on their shoulders to live up to public expectations. Executive Director PINS Prof. Asif Bashir and other faculty members advised the aspiring doctors to adhere strictly to medical ethics, underscoring that medical education requires immense dedication focus and a strong commitment to learning. Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain appealed to parents to remain actively involved in their children's academic and personal development. PHOTO: FILE In a landmark development for medical education and training in Pakistan, the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences (PINS), Lahore, has signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the renowned Besta Neuro Institute, Milan (Italy). The agreement marks the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing neurosurgical expertise through international collaboration. Under the MoU, senior residents from Besta Institute will now participate in clinical rotations at PINS, while senior registrars and faculty members from PINS will be given the opportunity to receive advanced training in Italy. The host Italian institution will fully facilitate the visiting Pakistani doctors by covering visa, accommodation, and other logistical arrangements, ensuring smooth access to world-class neurosurgical training. Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony held on Saturday, Executive Director PINS, Professor Asif Bashir, said: "This collaboration will provide our young neurosurgeons with the chance to master the latest surgical techniques and gain invaluable international exposure," he said.

PINS inks MoU with Italian Institute for training

LAHORE: Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences (PINS), Lahore and Besta Neuro Institute, Milan (Italy) have inked MoU under which senior residents of the latter will now come to PINS for rotation while senior registrars and senior faculty members of PINS will be provided with an opportunity to receive training in Italy. Under this partnership, the host Italian institution will take care of all visa, stay, and other arrangements which will enable Pakistani neurosurgeons to easily get international standard training. Executive Director PINS Prof. Asif Bashir said on the occasion that this agreement will prove to be a milestone for young neurosurgeons. They will not only get the opportunity to learn the latest neurosurgical skills but will also gain valuable experience of working in an international environment. He said that the aim of all these efforts is to equip young doctors with modern surgical skills and provide the best possible treatment facilities to patients. Prof. Asif Bashir said that agreements for technical cooperation will also be signed with other major neurosurgical centers of the world so that our young doctors can be made competitive by providing world-class professional training and the field of neurosurgery in Pakistan can be further developed. This step is a manifestation of PINS's continuous efforts for international standard training and research under the policy of the Punjab government and marks the beginning of a new era of medical education and services in the country which will also directly benefit the patients, he added.
