Man gets 20 yrs in prison for kidnap, rape of minor
Berhampur: The special Pocso court in Phulbani, Kandhamal district, on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the kidnap and rape of a 15-year-old girl last year. Manoranjan Das, additional district judge-cum-special judge of the Pocso court, also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict. He would undergo an additional nine months in jail if he fails to pay the fine, the court ordered, special prosecutor Asim Praharaj said. On Feb 7, 2024, the girl was found missing from home. Family members later learned she had been kidnapped by a person near the village. Her mother lodged a case at the local police station on Feb 10. Man gets 10-yr RI for raping teen in Kandhamal
Berhampur: A special Pocso court in Kandhamal district on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl last year. Additional district-cum-special judge Manoranjan Das also imposed a fine of Rs 52,000 on the convict. "The convict would undergo an additional eight months in jail if he fails to pay the fine," said special public prosecutor Asim Praharaj. The court also directed the district legal services authorities to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the survivor. "The court pronounced its verdict after examining and recording the statements of 15 witnesses, including police, doctor, and verifying some other relevant documents," Praharaj said. The convict raped the girl while she was returning home after witnessing a winter festival on Jan 13 last year. After sexually assaulting her, the man left her near an isolated place. She was rescued by a relative. The next day, she narrated her ordeal to her family members. Her mother lodged an FIR on Jan 17. Police registered a case under various sections of the IPC and Pocso Act and arrested the man. The man was in jail since his arrest.

Man gets 20-yr RI for raping 4-yr-old girl, outraging modesty of her mom
Berhampur: A special Pocso court at Phulbani in Kandhamal district on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 4-year-old girl and outraging the modesty of her mother last year. Additional district-cum-special judge Manoranjan Das also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict. "The convict would undergo an additional 13 months of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine," said special prosecutor Asim Praharaj. The court also directed the district legal services authorities to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the survivor. "The court pronounced its verdict after examining and recording the statements of 19 witnesses, including police, doctor and verifying some other documents," Praharaj said. The man raped the girl after entering her house forcibly when her parents were away. He allegedly outraged the modesty of her mother a few days before raping her daughter. On Feb 9 last year, her mother lodged an FIR. Police registered a case against the accused under various sections of IPC and Pocso Act and arrested the accused. The man was in jail since his arrest as the court had rejected his bail petition.
