Teacher claims trial to sexually abusing 14-year-old girl in car

PETALING JAYA : A secondary school teacher in Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, has claimed trial to a charge of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in a car last month.
Asyraf Ahmad, 36, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Seremban sessions court judge Surita Budin.
According to the charge, framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, Asyraf is accused of sexually abusing the teenager physically, Sinar Harian reported.
The offence was allegedly committed inside a car at KM242.1 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) between 9am and 9.20am on May 17.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in jail and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni proposed bail of RM20,000 in one surety, along with additional conditions; for the accused to report to the police monthly and not to contact the victim or prosecution witnesses.
Asyraf, who was unrepresented, appealed for a lower bail amount, citing financial responsibilities, including caring for his two children and elderly parents who are in poor health, as well as other commitments.
The court allowed him bail of RM12,000 in one surety and set July 15 for mention.
