Athlon College Football Preview magazine has Ohio State highly ranked, but where?

In case you need a little college football preview fix ahead of Ohio State kicking things off for the 2025 season, the preseason college football preview magazines are starting to hit the shelves and online. One I've enjoyed picking up over the years is Athlon Sports preview magazine. I've been reading it for years and I plan to go in-depth on its contents again this season. If you are like me, the first thing you head for in any preview article or magazine is where the Buckeyes are in the national rankings previews, and that's exactly where I went with this year's Athlon preview magazine. You had to think that Ohio State would be fairly high in the rankings, being the defending College Football Playoff national champions and all, and that's exactly what we found inside the contents of Athlon's ranking. In fact, Athlon has Ohio State as the No. 3 team in the country, behind only Texas at No. 1 and Penn State at No. 2. That should set up some pretty monumental contests on the schedule this year because Ohio State opens up with Texas in the 'Shoe and also hosts the Nittany Lions later in the year. Rounding out the top ten for Athlon behind OSU is Georgia (4), Clemson (5), Notre Dame (6), LSU (7), Alabama (8), Oregon (9), and Miami (FL) (10). That's the usual suspects I guess you would expect, and if we look a little further down the preseason rankings, we see Michigan sitting there at No. 15. We'll see how close this preseason ranking is when things get rolling starting in Week 1 on Aug. 30. 6 Georgia Bulldogs named as preseason All-Americans

The Georgia Bulldogs will have a very new look for the 2025 college football season. Georgia had 13 players selected in the 2025 NFL draft (second-most of any program) and lost several key players to the transfer portal including starting quarterback Carson Beck. Despite Georgia's roster turnover, the Dawgs and head coach Kirby Smart still enter the fall with one of the most talented teams in the country. Georgia's projected starting quarterback, Gunner Stockton, will have no shortage of talent around him as he tries to navigate Georgia back to the College Football Playoff. Georgia's top returning players are expected to take on larger roles in 2025. In fact, six Bulldogs have made Athlon's 2025 preseason All-America team. Georgia has the fifth-most preseason All-Americans behind Clemson, Texas, Alabama and Penn State. Clemson is well represented in Athlon Sports All-America, All-ACC teams for 2025

Clemson football's roster is drawing plenty of preseason recognition, with the Tigers earning top billing on both Athlon Sports' 2025 All-America and All-ACC teams released this week. Athlon named eight Clemson players to its All-America squads — more than any other program in the country, edging out Alabama, Texas and Penn State, who each landed seven. Defensive standouts T.J. Parker and Peter Woods headline the group as first-team selections. On offense, quarterback Cade Klubnik and wide receiver Antonio Williams made the second team, while receiver Bryant Wesco, offensive lineman Blake Miller and cornerback Avieon Terrell landed on the third team. Linebacker Wade Woodaz rounded out the national picks with a spot on the fourth team. The Tigers also dominated Athlon's All-ACC list, placing 16 players across the four teams — one more than Miami. Eight Clemson players made the first team: Klubnik, Williams, Wesco, Miller, Parker, Woods, Woodaz and Terrell. Linebacker Sammy Brown, safety Khalil Barnes and kicker Nolan Hauser secured second-team spots. Freshman running back Gideon Davidson was listed on the third team, joined by offensive lineman Walker Parks and defensive linemen Will Heldt and DeMonte Capehart. Receiver T.J. Moore closed out the group on the fourth team. Clemson will look to back up those preseason accolades right away when it kicks off the 2025 season in prime time. Dabo Swinney's Tigers open at home under the lights against LSU on Saturday, Aug. 30. The schedule once again includes seven home games in Death Valley, four ACC road matchups and the season finale on the road against rival South Carolina. 4️⃣Athlon Sports Preseason All-America selections 🇺🇸☘️First-Team Offense☘️ RB Jeremiyah LoveFirst-Team Defense☘️ CB Leonard MooreSecond-Team Offense☘️ OL Aamil WagnerThird-Team Defense☘️ LB Drayk Bowen#GoIrish☘️ Star power is something that Notre Dame football is accustomed to, and there isn't a lack of that for the 2025 season as Athlon Sports has four Irish players on its Preseason All-American Team's. Two made the first-team in running back Jeremiyah Love and cornerback Leonard Moore, which shouldn't surprise anyone. The pair lead their sides of Notre Dame's team and are known commodities. Big things are expected from both of them this fall. Offensive tackle Aamil Wagner made Athlon's second-team, as the senior enters the year as one of the unquestioned starters. After getting reserve run during his sophomore season, Wagner took hold of his spot and started every game this past year. Linebacker Drayk Bowen placed on the third-team, as the hype surrounding the junior has gotten bigger. He played a huge role on defense in 2024, making a huge jump from his first-season making 78 tackles with a sack and three forced fumbles. Notre Dame again has a roster that should complete for a spot in the College Football playoff, as they'll look to replicate their run to the championship game, but hopefully with a better result.

Athlon names four Ohio State football players to its Preseason All-American teams

You know it's close to the start of college football season when the preseason college football magazines start to hit the shelf and show up online. One of the most read out there that's been around since I can remember is Athlon Sports. I can remember sitting down during many summers after picking up the old school magazine, and sitting down to leaf through its contets. Of course, I was interested in all of the Ohio State content, but there was plenty in there to keep me entertained and occupied for hours. Well, it's that time of year again, and we're interested in all things Buckeye related this time around as well. Athlon highlighted its All-American team and included four OSU players among both its First and Second All-America Teams. On the First Team was -- as you can guess -- safety Caleb Downs and receiver Jeremiah Smith. Both are thought of by most national outlets and publications as the best player on defense and offense in the country, so it makes a lot of sense. Both should have fantastic years. As a freshman, Smith caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns. Downs was used as a roving athlete who made plays all over the field. But those two weren't the only Ohio State players to be recognized as All-Americans by Athlon. On the Second Team were linebacker Sonny Styles and wide receiver Carnell Tate. Both have a tremendous upside and flashed what they can do last season, but both should be even better this coming fall. Tate was in the shadow of Smith, but he hauled in 52 catches for 733 yards and four touchdowns. Don't be surprised if his numbers go well beyond that this fall and look more like Smith's because of all the attention he'll attract. It should be a great year in Columbus with these four players leading the way. Don't be surprised if a couple of other players make a name for themselves as well.
