Plans lodged for dozens of homes on grazing land
Plans have been lodged for dozens of new homes to be built on grazing land. Atkinson Homes has applied to Westmorland and Furness Council for permission to build 93 houses on land next to Raiseland Farm in Penrith, off the A6. The developer said the land had been used for agricultural purposes for the last 200 years, but the site was now surrounded by homes due to new developments nearby. The estate would include a mixture of two to four bedroom homes, with 27 houses designated as affordable. Plans show a 30mph zone on the A6 access would be extended by about 920ft (280m) to accommodate the development. "Each property will benefit from a minimum of two parking spaces, either on a private driveway adjacent to the house or in designated parking areas nearby," the planning documents said. Visitor parking would also be provided around the development. A consultation on the plans continues until 2 August. Follow BBC Cumbria on X, Facebook, Nextdoor and Instagram.
