Delta flight frantically halts takeoff as another plane almost lands on top of it in heart-pounding scene
A US-bound Delta flight with at least 150 people onboard was forced to hit the brakes during takeoff in Mexico this week when another jet nearly landed on top of it. Delta Flight 590 had just started rolling down the runway at Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez in Mexico City on Monday when the regional AeroMéxico plane suddenly flew overhead and landed in front of it, Flightradar 24 data showed. 3 An AeroMéxico plane nearly landed on top of a Delta Air Lines 737 as it was taking off this week. FlightRadar24 The regional jet came within less than 200 feet of the Atlanta-bound Delta flight, CNN reported. The Delta pilots quickly aborted takeoff and returned to the terminal in the wake of the near collision. 'Delta will fully cooperate with authorities as the circumstances around this flight are investigated,' the airline said in a statement. 3 The AeroMéxico plane came within 200 feet of Delta's Boeing 737. Major plane tragedy averted! Aeromexico plane nearly lands on Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 flight at Mexico City airport
A major plane tragedy was averted at Mexico City airport, when an Aeromexico plane came dangerously close to a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 jet during landing, on Wednesday, July 23. Aeromexico Flight 1631 swooped in over Delta Air Lines plane 590— already accelerating on its takeoff roll—before touching down on the very same runway, causing the flights to be just 200 ft away from each other, according to FlightRadar24 – a flight tracking website. The incident occurred on runway 5R at Benito Juarez International Airport. A video footage from the flight tracker shows the exact moment when the two flights narrowly averted what could have been a major tragedy. Delta Air Lines said the Atlanta-bound Boeing 737flight with 150 people onboard was on its takeoff roll when the crew aborted after observing 'another aircraft landing in front of their aircraft on the same runway,' reported ABC News. What pilot recordings revealed? The Delta Air Lines flight in question had already picked up a speed of 60 miles per hour before it's take-off roll was aborted. As per air traffic control recordings accessed by ABC News, the Delta pilot can be heard saying, "We are holding on the runway" followed by someone saying, "Wow" and "Increíble." (Spanish for "incredible.") It is unclear if that was said by a nearby pilot or a controller. The Delta jet returned to its gate before finally departing to its destination later that morning. What caused the close call? A former US-based fighter pilot, Steve Ganyard said that the issued might have happened due to failure in communication. "It seems pretty clear that there was a failure to communicate, either with the tower controllers clearing it to aircraft for takeoff at the same time they cleared one to land, or perhaps they weren't clear with a landing aircraft which runway — left or right — it should have been landing on," said Ganyard. "But somewhere it was a failure to communicate." Investigations into the alarming incident are currently underway. Air India; Bangladesh Air Force jet crash The Delta Air Lines flight and AeroMexico plane incident comes days after the deadly Air India plane crash in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, that killed 241 people onboard — into which investigations are still underway. On Monday, July 21, at least 20 people were killed and 171 others were injured after a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into a school.

Delta and Aeromexico jets nearly collide at Mexico City airport
An Aeromexico plane nearly collided with a Delta Air Lines plane while landing in Mexico City on Monday. FlightRadar24 data shows Aeromexico Flight 1631 flew over Delta Flight 590 on runway 5R at Mexico's Benito Juarez International Airport before proceeding to land ahead of it on the same runway. The two aircraft were just 200 feet apart, according to data from FlightRadar24. Delta Air Lines said the Atlanta-bound flight with 150 people onboard was on its takeoff roll when the crew aborted after observing "another aircraft landing in front of their aircraft on the same runway." In air traffic control recordings, the Delta pilot can be heard saying, "We are holding on the runway" followed by someone saying, "Wow" and "Increíble." (Spanish for "incredible.") It is unclear if that was said by a nearby pilot or a controller. The Delta plane had reached a speed of approximately 60 miles per hour before it stopped. The Delta jet returned to its gate before finally departing to its destination later that morning. "There are parallel runways at Mexico City. So we don't know if the controller told the Aeromexico aircraft to land on the left-hand and not the right-hand runway where the Delta jet was," said Steve Ganyard, an ABC News aviation contributor and former fighter pilot. "We also don't know, perhaps the tower controller didn't understand that they had cleared the Aeromexico aircraft to land while simultaneously clearing the Delta jet to take off." In a statement to ABC, Delta said, "Because nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, Delta will fully cooperate with authorities as the circumstances around this flight are investigated. We appreciate the flight crew's actions to maintain situational awareness and act quickly – part of Delta's extensive training." Aeromexico said the airline is working closely with the authorities as they conduct a detailed investigation of the incident. "At Aeromexico, the safety of our customers and employees is, and will always be, our highest priority," the airline said in a statement. As authorities investigate the incident, aviation experts say they will consider whether there was a communication failure. "It seems pretty clear that there was a failure to communicate, either with the tower controllers clearing it to aircraft for takeoff at the same time they cleared one to land, or perhaps they weren't clear with a landing aircraft which runway -- left or right -- it should have been landing on," said Ganyard. "But somewhere it was a failure to communicate."

Delta's Boeing 767 makes emergency landing in Los Angeles as engine catches fire moments after takeoff
Atlanta-bound Boeing 767 operating as Delta flight 446 was forced to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles as a precautionary measure on Friday moments after takeoff due to engine failure. The video shows flames emanating from one side of the aircraft. No one was injured. The fire was extinguished upon landing. According to a report by Aviation A2Z, the plane (24-year-old Boeing 767-400 with registration N836MH) had just departed from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) when its left engine ignited. The pilots promptly declared an emergency and requested to return to the airport. Air Traffic Control (ATC) provided guidance for the aircraft to head back to LAX and notified ground emergency crews. Data from Flightradar24 indicates that flight DL446 ascended over the Pacific Ocean before redirecting inland, flying over the areas of Downey and Paramount. This route allowed the flight crew to carry out necessary safety protocols and get ready for landing. Throughout the maneuver, the plane held a consistent altitude and airspeed. 'Delta flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure following an indication of an issue with the aircraft's left engine," BBC quoted a Delta Air Lines spokesperson as saying. According to passengers, the captain told them that fire crews were 'verifying that the engine fire is out'. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated a probe to assess the fire cause. The plane is equipped with two General Electric CF6 engines, reports said. In April, a separate Delta aircraft encountered an engine fire at Orlando International Airport. Delta Air Lines Flight 1213 was getting ready to depart for Atlanta when the fire erupted on the ramp. The aircraft involved, an Airbus A330, had 282 passengers on board, along with 10 flight attendants and two pilots. Everyone was safely evacuated, and no injuries occurred. Emergency response and firefighting units at Orlando airport acted swiftly to manage the incident.
