No Vestal Town Board replacement for Donnelly coming this year
VESTAL, N.Y (WIVT/WBGH) – Vestal residents will need to wait until next year for a replacement for a town board member who recently announced his resignation. Republican Stephen Donnelly submitted a letter to the Vestal Town Clerk on Friday indicating that he will step down from his position on the board effective April 15 because he is moving out of the town. Donnelly had faced a firestorm of criticism and calls for his removal after he acknowledged the financial pain he had caused customers and suppliers of his failed construction company Atlas James which is currently part of bankruptcy proceedings. Supervisor Maria Sexton, who frequently clashed with Donnelly on the board, says the town will not appoint a temporary replacement for his position. She says it's not required and the position was already up for reelection this November so the town residents will choose his replacement. Donnelly was the only Republican on the board.
