Auburn baseball vs. Stetson: Live coverage of the Auburn Regional

The Auburn Tigers handled business on Friday by defeating Central Connecticut, 9-5, in the Auburn Regional opener. Five Tigers logged multiple hits in the game, with Lucas Steele crushing a home run and Eric Snow recording a triple. Auburn was productive at the plate, but the work by Carson Myers on the mound is what ultimately decided the game. Myers entered the game with a small, 4-3 lead, and held the Blue Devils to one earned run and six hits over six complete innings with nine strikeouts. The Hatters scored seven runs in the 1st inning and added three runs over the final two innings to seal the win. Third baseman Isaiah Barkett recorded three hits (all doubles) with four RBI in the victory. Check back throughout the game for the latest updates and highlights from Auburn's matchup with Stetson. The outs collector does his thing (AUB 8 SU 5 FINAL) Ryan Hetzler closed the door as Auburn is headed to its 16th Regional Final in program history tomorrow evening. Ike Irish boomed an opposite field solo shot into the night, putting his Tigers ahead by 3 runs heading into the game's final act. AUB in the 8th: 1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 LOB The outs collector does his thing (AUB 7 SU 5 end 8th) Ryan Hetzler stayed true to his nickname in the eighth frame, collecting a trio of massive outs to put Auburn on the precipice of heading to a regional final with a 2-0 record. Teams to do so have reached the Super Regional Round 81% of the time. Advertisement SU in the 8th: 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Van Dyke brings more heat (AUB 7 SU 5 mid 8th) If the Stetson Hatters come all the way back to win this game, Ty Van Dyke, along with third baseman Isaiah Barkett, deserve the keys to the state of Florida. Van Dyke has struck out 6 Tigers in three innings of work. AUB in the 8th: 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Balls and Strikes, and tension (AUB 7 SU 5 end 7th) Samuel Dutton came back out for the seventh inning and looked to be on his way to a perfect frame before frustration got the best of the senior. After a myriad of questionable calls by the home plate umpire, Dutton refuted a clear ball he believed was strike three, leading to his unraveling on the mound. Sophomore Ryan Hetzler was ineffective out of the bullpen, turning a bad inning into a near disastrous one. Hetzler did escape a self-inflicted bases loaded jam, leaving the Tigers with a 2-run lead heading into the final two frames. Advertisement SU in the 7th: 2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Samuel Dutton's Final Line: 6 2/3 IP, 7 H, 5 R (4 ER), 3 K, 3 BB Terrell serves up the ribeyes (AUB 7 SU 3 mid 7th) A Cooper McMurray walk and another Eric Snow knock set the stage for freshman Bub Terrell, who flew a magestic fly ball about 40 feet up the 'War Eagle Wall' in left field, scoring a pair of runs while giving the Tigers their eighth double of the night. AUB in the 6th: 2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 LOB Finishing strong? (AUB 5 SU 3 end 6th) Samuel Dutton set down the Hatters 1-2-3 in his final inning of work. The senior seemingly ended his night with an exclamation, as he sent Plainsman Park into a frenzy with a full count strikeout of Jordan Taylor. Still only at 85 pitches, Dutton could return for the seventh. SU in the 6th: 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB T(TY)L (AUB 5 SU 3 mid 6th) Right hander Ty Van Dyke said "good morning, good afternoon, and good night" to all three Tigers batters he faced in the sixth. Coming just one pitch away from an immaculate inning, Van Dyke struck out the side in 10 pitches. Advertisement AUB in the 6th: 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Flashing the leather (AUB 5 SU 3 end 5th) Samuel Dutton allowed another lead off single, but a 5-4-3 double play followed by a sensational stop-and-throw by Deric Fabian erased any semblance of a Stetson threat in the fifth. SU in the 5th: 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 LOB McDouble (AUB 5 SU 3 mid 5th) Cooper McMurray's third double of the evening paired with Eric Snow's second gave Auburn a season-high seven doubles in a single contest. We are only half way through this Regional matchup. AUB in the 5th: 1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Crawling back (AUB 4 SU 3 end 4th) A Foster Apple walk following back-to-back singles by Lorenzo Meola and Landon Moran loaded the bases for Jordan Taylor with no one out. The junior lined a single past the sprawling dive of center fielder Bristol Carter, but a heads-up backup and surgical throw home by Ike Irish cut down a second Stetson run at the plate. A deflection-aided single from Landon Russell scored another Hatters run, making Irish's throw even more momentous in an already substantial inning for Stetson. Advertisement SU in the 4th: 2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Shutdown inning (AUB 4 SU 1 mid 4th) Deric Fabian added a bunt single in his first at bat after entering the game for the injured Eric Guevara, but Stetson reliever Justin Solimine registered a much-needed scoreless fourth for the Hatters. AUB in the 4th: 0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB The Griffis show (AUB 4 SU 1 end 3rd) Designated hitter Evan Griffis found the right field grass for Stetson's first hit of the night, and a walk to Landon Russell gave the Hatters their first true threat of the evening. Leadoff man Isaiah Barkett would bring home Griffis on a groundout, giving Stetson some life after the early barrage of Auburn runs. Advertisement SU in the 3rd: 1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 LOB Tigers on the prowl (AUB 4 SU 0 mid 3rd) Sometimes baseball can be a frustrating game. That frustration is certainly being felt by freshman Chris Rembert, who again barreled a baseball directly into the glove of a Stetson outfielder. The remainder of the Tigers' lineup found more luck, with Eric Guevara collecting his first hit, and first run scored, of the weekend after an Ike Irish double. Cooper McMurray tagged a double high off the left field wall just two pitches later, scoring Irish and the fourth Auburn run of the ball game. A Jordan Taylor diving snag in right field briefly saved James Hays, but control problems forced Stetson's starter to the showers. AUB in the 3rd: 2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 3 LOB Advertisement James Hayes Final Line: 2.2 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 2 BB Mad, Hatters (AUB 2 SU 0 end 2nd) Samuel Dutton picked up right where he left off after a perfect first inning. The senior induced a pair of ground outs before forcing outfielder Jordan Taylor to fly out. SU in the 2nd: 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Flurry of Auburn doubles put Tigers on top (AUB 2 SU 0 mid 2nd) Cooper McMurray obliterated a baseball into the right field corner for the first hit of the evening by either team. Auburn's cleanup hitter came around to score the first run of the evening on an Eric Snow double. The knock extended Snow's hit-streak to a dozen games. Bub Terrell barreled home the third Auburn double of the inning a batter later, extending Auburn's lead to 2. AUB in the 2nd: 2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 LOB Dutton protects his ranch (AUB 0 SU 0 end 1st) Aided by a dazzling web gem in the hole from short stop Eric Snow, Auburn ace Samuel Dutton fired a perfect first inning, ending the frame with a backwards 'k' of Hatters three hitter Lorenzo Meola. Advertisement SU in the 1st: 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB Uneventful start for Tigers (AUB 0 SU 0 mid 1st) Chris Rembert ripped a line drive to center to lead off the game, but unfortunately for the Tigers it landed directly in the glove of Stetson center fielder Landon Russell. A subsequent strikeout and groundout ended a perfect opening frame for Hatters starting pitcher James Hayes. The No. 4 seed Auburn Tigers begin its run to the College World Series on Friday by facing the Central Connecticut Blue Devils on Friday in the Auburn Regional opener at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn is becoming a household name in college baseball, with the most recent evidence coming Monday when it was revealed that the Tigers would host its third regional in four years, a program record. 'To do it for the first time in our program's history, I'm thankful to be associated with such an amazing group of players, coaches, stakeholders, fans and administration that sees the amazing value and potential in Auburn baseball. The 2025 Tigers can't wait to compete this weekend and start the postseason in the newly renovated Plainsman Park in front of our amazing fans.' 'Nobody wanted…': Auburn's Hugh Freeze clears his stance on the SEC's 9-game plan

Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze opened up about his stance on the possibility of the SEC shifting back to a nine-game conference schedule. The topic also came up during the SEC Spring meetings. On Tuesday, reporters asked Coach Freeze about his concerns regarding such a move. 'I think we would say, 'Alright, what is best for the conference, but can you give us the totality of the information? Like, are we getting some guaranteed folks in the playoffs? You know, how many?' Freeze questioned. Hugh Freeze compared the College Football scene with the NFL, arguing that individual losses don't affect Super Bowl chances as much as they do in college football. 'You can lose seven games in the NFL and win the Super Bowl, and you can be 8-4 in this league, and might be the hottest team -- nobody wanted to play South Carolina at the end of the year last year,' Freeze said. Freeze said he wanted to know the totality of the proposal and asked if that was the best approach for the SEC. 'And so, when you talk eight or nine from a coach's perspective, first, what is best for the conference? But also, can you give us the -- what is the full totality of the of the picture. What does it look like?'
