Drunk driver arrested after allegedly fleeing roadblock: Port Moody police

An Audi SUV is towed away on Friday, Aug. 8, in this image handed out by the Port Moody Police Department. Police in Port Moody say a woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly fled from a drunk driving roadblock on Friday. In a news release, the Port Moody Police Department said officers at the checkpoint on Murray Street flagged an Audi SUV around 9:45 p.m. over 'concerns the driver may be impaired by alcohol.' The department says the woman drove away before ultimately being boxed in by police vehicles in the Suter Brook Village Area. 'Officers arrested the female driver who was later transported to the police cellblock,' police wrote in a Saturday news release, adding they're recommending charges of impaired driving and flight from police. In the release, Const. Sam Zacharias said the driver was one of three removed from Port Moody roads that night, all within the span of an about an hour. 'Impaired drivers pose significant risk to all road users and we urge those who intend on consuming alcohol or other impairing substances to plan a safe ride home,' he said.

Limerick crime surges as car ransacked, van looted, and Audi stolen in broad daylight

According to Sergeant Aoife Bannon of the Henry Street Community Policing unit, several incidents have occurred in different parts of the city. The first incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, between midnight and 9am, in the Ballinacurra Road area. A parked car was entered and a sum of cash was taken. Gardaí at Roxboro Road Station are asking anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area to contact them on 061 214 340. A separate theft occurred on Wednesday morning, June 25, in the Woodview area on the city's north side. In this case, a work van was broken into between 5:50am and 7:30am, and a number of essential tools were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400. Sergeant Bannon shared that even when parked in familiar or quiet locations 'thieves often go around checking for unlocked vehicles. It's all about opportunity, and if it's there, they'll take it.' In a more serious case, a vehicle was stolen in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon, June 28. The incident occurred in the Clancy Strand area around 2:30pm when a grey 2021 Audi SUV was taken after being left running outside a house while the owner briefly stepped away. The car has not yet been recovered. 'Leaving the engine running, even just for a second, is an easy trap to fall into,' said Sergeant Bannon. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Clancy Strand area that afternoon is urged to contact Henry Street Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
