Broncos' 2024 draft pick looks like a sure cut ahead of final preseason game

Broncos' 2024 draft pick looks like a sure cut ahead of final preseason game originally appeared on The Sporting News Before training camp started for the Denver Broncos, almost everyone would have had running back Audric Estime as a sure bet to make this year's team. But with six running backs on the current roster, he has likely fallen to the last spot on the depth chart. The Broncos used their second-round pick on RJ Harvey before signing J.K. Dobbins in free agency. That pushed Estime down the depth chart, but he hasn't performed well this summer and has seemingly fallen behind the other three running backs — Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie and Blake Watson. It now looks like close to a sure thing that he will be left off the 53-man roster. and some of that could be due to a poor work ethic and attitude. Consider what former Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay had to say on his show, "The Drive" on Denver Sports 104.3 The Fan. Estime was a fifth-round pick by the Broncos in 2024 and is still just 21 years old. It seems like he has some strides to make as a professional and is not ready to be part of a team coached by Sean Payton. He will get one more preseason game to show that he should still have a chance to stick around, but it's hard to see the Broncos cutting any of the other running backs in favor of him based on what he have seen this preseason. Broncos' 5th-round RB from 2024 not a lock to make the team

What a difference a year makes. At this point last summer, some Denver Broncos fans were discussing whether fifth-round draft pick Audric Estime would eventually take over as the starting running back. Now there's no guarantee he'll make the team. Against the San Francisco 49ers last week, Estime was fifth in line in the running back rotation behind R.J. Harvey, J.K. Dobbins, Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie. After the game, coach Sean Payton indicated the RBs will continue to rotate spots during preseason, but it can't be a good sign for Estime that McLaughlin and Badie both got on the field before him. Later in the game, Blake Watson entered the contest and he totaled 49 yards from scrimmage on seven touches. Estime had 41 yards on nine touches. It seems that Estime was RB5 going into the first preseason game. If he doesn't impress against the Arizona Cardinals this week, he might even drop to RB6. Estime (5-11, 227 pounds) rushed 76 times for 310 yards and two scores in 13 games as a rookie, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. It's still possible that he could make Denver's 53-man roster this summer, but Estime may be in danger of being the odd man out in a crowded backfield. The 21-year-old running back will aim to impress over the next two weeks before roster cuts begin. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X!
