Hubballi embraces eco-friendly rakhis made from cow dung this Raksha Bandhan
1 2 Hubballi: In a shift towards sustainability this Raksha Bandhan, the markets of Hubballi are showcasing a unique alternative to traditional plastic rakhis — those made from cow dung. These eco-friendly rakhis are not only biodegradable, but also contain seeds that can be planted to grow trees or herbs. Adorned with sacred motifs like the Aum, Shree, and Swastik, these rakhis are believed to bring good health to brothers while also protecting nature. Mallikarjun Radder, founder of Organic Aramane, told TOI that efforts are being made to make all festivals plastic and chemical-free. "North Karnataka is also contributing to this change. Upon hearing about cow dung rakhis, we procured and stored them in our store, where we cater to organic consumers and green enthusiasts." Siddu Raddi, a vendor at Siddharoodha Math Road, said the demand for these eco-friendly rakhis are soaring. "We have already sold 500 rakhis in just a week and we have ordered more. Many studies show that cow dung can reduce the harmful effects of radiation from smartphones. "If manufacturers in Hubballi or North Karnataka region take up production, prices will be lower," he said. He also observed that there is very little awareness about such rakhis, which is why people are still hesitant to buy them. "Many buyers are still not yet fully aware of such products," he said. Kavita Katti, a homemaker in Akshay Colony, said, " I am happy to see such rakhis. However, they need to be more fancy to appeal to young buyers. Tens of Millions of Yen in Cash Seized from Residence of Matsumoto's Widow; Family of Executed Aum Leader Remain Under Official Surveillance
SAITAMA — A search by the Saitama prefectural police uncovered tens of millions of yen in cash in an apartment in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture, where the widow and second son of Chizuo Matsumoto, the executed founder of the Aum Supreme Truth cult, reside, investigative sources said Tuesday. The search was conducted on suspicion of violation of the Law on the Control of Organizations Which Have Committed Acts of Indiscriminate Mass Murder. Public security authorities are investigating the source of the funds. Matsumoto, also known as Shoko Asahara, was executed in 2018. Aum has split and factionalized multiple times. Currently, the primary successor organization, Aleph, along with splinter groups such as Hikari no Wa ('Ring of light') and Yamadara no Shudan ('The Yamada group'), remain active. All three organizations are considered to be under the influence of the late Matsumoto, and as such, have been subject to monitoring under the aforementioned law since 2000. The Public Security Intelligence Agency has maintained surveillance through on-site inspections. According to the investigative sources, the agency attempted an on-site inspection of the Koshigaya apartment in March this year, in accordance with the law. However, the widow refused to comply. Consequently, the Saitama prefectural police, acting on a complaint from the agency, conducted a search of the apartment in April, leading to the discovery of tens of millions of yen in cash. The agency has conducted a total of about 600 inspections of sites belonging to the three organizations, but targeting the base of Matsumoto's family is considered unusual. According to public security officials, Matsumoto is believed to have named his second son as one of his successors. There are also thought to be movements within Aleph to appoint Matsumoto's second son the position of 'guru,' prompting the agency to intensify its vigilance over the activities of both. Aleph has been ordered to pay over ¥1 billion in compensation to victims of the sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system and other incidents. However, they have so far failed to do so.

Pichsuthang Khaiseangthong (Aum), a former Provincial Director of Miss Grand Khon Kaen 2024 and a well-known makeup artist for several beauty pageants, tragically took her own life after falling victim to a scam call centre that tricked her into transferring money for a fake investment. The incident began on July 6, when Aum filed a complaint with investigators at Kamphaeng Saen Police Station in Nakhon Pathom province, reporting that a scammer had impersonated a Facebook account and persuaded her to invest in a fake scheme. She lost approximately 50,000 baht in total. On July 10, Aum was found dead, with early reports suggesting stress and emotional distress from the incident as the likely cause. As of July 13, the Cyber Police Division announced they are now coordinating with relevant authorities to gather evidence and track down the perpetrators. Authorities believe this is part of a larger call center scam network that targets victims with fake investment offers. Police are reviewing the case details further and will continue efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
