Judge sides with city of Austin in Statesman PUD case
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Travis County Civil Court judge sided with the city of Austin, potentially moving forward the Planned Unit Development (PUD) on the former Austin-American Statesman property. According to an attorney for the Save Our Springs Alliance (SOS), the judge 'did not provide a reason' for the ruling against the organization. The PUD was approved in 2022 for a development that would include a 275-room high-rise hotel, six towers of residential units and office space. From 2022: Some concerned about required park space in Statesman PUD conversation According to the city, PUD zoning is meant 'to preserve the natural environment, encourage high quality development and innovative design, and ensure adequate public facilities and services' and 'must be superior to the development that would occur under conventional zoning and subdivision regulations.' However, PUD zoning also 'provides greater design flexibility by permitting modifications of site development regulations.' The lawsuit that was rejected in court Tuesday claimed that Austin City Council violated the Texas Open meetings Act and the Austin City Charter when it approved the PUD for 18.86 acres along the south shore of lady Bird lake. SOS claimed that the city did not provide adequate public notice regarding 'major changes to City standards.' The attorney for SOS told KXAN they are 'considering options for appeal.' KXAN has reached out to the city of Austin for its response to the ruling. We will update this article if a statement is received. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Texas A&M Edge rusher confirms top 30 visit with the Dallas Cowboys
Texas A&M Edge rusher confirms top 30 visit with the Dallas Cowboys Texas A&M's 2025 Pro Day was a rousing success for several of the 2024 roster members who were looking to improve their NFL Draft stock, but due to his impressive performance during last month's NFL Combine in Indianapolis (IN), edge rusher Shemar Stewart did not participate in Thursday's pro day workouts, as he is likely guaranteed to be selected in the first or second round during next month's 2025 NFL Draft. However, that didn't stop the former five-star prospect from talking to the local media in attendance, as Austin-American Statesman Aggie beat writer Tony Catalina captured the moment that Stewart revealed that he was a top 3- visit for the Dallas Cowboys, and when asked about the possibility of playing alongside All-Pro pass rusher Micah Hudson, all Stewart could do was grin. "It could be a crazy 1-2 punch" Stewart's draft stock exploded during the NFL Combine, including his 4.59 40-yard dash, elite 1.58 10-yard split, and eye-popping 40-inch vertical that solidified his standing among the top draft prospects with first-round potential. Still, Stewart's lack of career sacks (4.5) will always come into question, but he makes up for it due to his high motor and elite athleticism at 6'5" and 267 pounds. All 32 NFL teams will reportedly have representatives, including 80 NFL personnel who have made their way to College Station to watch the Aggie workouts. Worthy won't face charges, ‘being declined at this time'
GEORGETOWN, TX – Fresno native and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy will not be charged by the Williamson County authorities for assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation, according to an updated post on the county's judicial records website. The Central High alum had been booked into jail by the Williamson County Sherriff's Office late Friday night, and charged with the third-degree felony in the state of Texas, but maintained his innocence through his attorneys Sam Bassett and Chip Lewis. Earlier in the day, before the charges were dismissed, Worthy's attorneys released a statement, which called the allegations 'baseless' and said 'we are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation.' The Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick on Saturday evening told the Austin-American Statesman that, after speaking with multiple witnesses, his office is not accepting the case at this time. 'After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office,' read an email from Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick's office to the Statesman. 'Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation.' 'We will continue to evaluate the case,' the email added. As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury.'
