Dundee United have discovered who they will face in the next round of UEFA Conference League qualifying if they defeat UNA Strassen. Jim Goodwin's side face the minnows from Luxembourg in the second qualifying round with the away first leg taking place on Thursday followed by the return leg at Tannadice Park seven days later. However, they have been handed a tough draw with the winner of their tie against UNA Strassen set to face the winner of the tie between Rapid Vienna of Austria and Montenegrin outfit FK Dečić. Rapid Vienna qualified for the Conference League after finishing fifth in last season's Austrian Bundesliga before defeating LASK in a play-off for the last European place on offer. They reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League last term before succumbing to Djurgården of Sweden. Rapid Vienna are big favourites to progress through that tie so United will be anticipating a trip to Austria if they avoid what would be a humiliating defeat to UNA Strassen. The tie would stir memories of United's famous run to the European Cup semi-finals in 1984 with Rapid Vienna defeated in the quarter-finals on the away goals rule after a 2-2 draw on aggregate. The Conference League third qualifying round ties take place on August 7 and August 14, with the draw for the play-off round being held on Monday, August 4.

Marco Tilio expected to join Rapid Vienna on loan from Celtic

Marco Tilio is set to join Austrian outfit Rapid Vienna on loan from Scottish giants Celtic, ending any faint hopes Melbourne City had that the Socceroos winger would return to the club for the 2025-26 A-League campaign. City coach Aurelio Vidmar last week said it was 'highly likely we won't have the return of Marco' after Tilio had spent the previous season and a half on loan to the Melbourne club, who are the reigning A-League champions. Since then, the 23-year-old attacking weapon was used as a second-half substitute by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in the Hoops' 4-0 weekend trial win over English Premier League club Newcastle United. However, reports suggest Tilio – who signed a five-year deal with Celtic in June 2023 – is heading to Vienna for a loan spell with Rapid, who finished fifth in last season's Austrian Bundesliga. Sky Sport has reported the deal will have an obligation clause for Rapid to buy Tilio if he makes 20 competitive appearances for the club. Celtic, whose reported loan fee is more than $710,000, will pocket about $2.6m if Tilio ends up joining Rapid on a permanent deal. City's director of football Michael Petrillo said: 'While we were keen to extend his stay and continued discussions with Celtic, we fully support Marco's ambition to once again challenge himself in Europe. 'We thank him for everything he's contributed to the Melbourne City and wish him every success in the next stage of his career.' Rapid's first competitive match of the new season is a Europa Conference League qualifier on Friday morning (AEST) against Montenegrin club FK Decic. A good start to the season will help Tilio's chances of being retained in the Socceroos squad for September's two matches against New Zealand in Canberra and Auckland. Meanwhile, former Melbourne City defender Scott Galloway has departed Auckland FC after just one season at the club. Celtic winger Marco Tilio 'set' for Rapid Vienna move

After contributing five goals and five assists in a temporary spell at Melbourne City last season, the 23-year-old played less than 30 minutes in the Parkhead club's 4-0 pre-season win over Newcastle United on Saturday. He has made only two senior appearances for Celtic since his summer 2023 signing from Melbourne City. Read more: Sky Sports Austria claims that Tilio is 'set' to join Rapid in a loan deal that includes an option for a permanent transfer, though talks of a full move are said to be ongoing. Melbourne City manager Aurelio Vidmar recently weighed in on the winger's future. He said [NewsWire]: "It's clear with Marco that he's been pretty keen to go back to Europe. "He was involved in a friendly game last weekend, so it's highly likely we won't have the return of Marco, but we just don't know where that's going to end. "He's part of Celtic's property. "We don't own the player, so we'll see where that goes. "There'll be ongoing discussions until we actually know what's happening before we make the next move." Tilio's potential move to the Austrian Bundesliga could give the young player more first-team opportunities.

Kaizer Chiefs transfers: Tau, Zajmovic, R15 million insult

Today's Kaizer Chiefs news wrap has rumours on Percy Tau, Dzenan Zajmovic and a fee for Yusuf Maart's move to Austria. Skipper Maart is finalising a switch to the Austrian Bundesliga with newly-promoted SV Ried. Percy Tau's future remains a subject of feverish debate. Pitso Mosimane's son heads to Italy Central midfielder Yusuf Maart, a senior and well-respected member of the Kaizer Chiefs squad, is taking his opportunity to move to Europe just before his 30th birthday. The industrious midfield man is said to be making the switch to Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried for a fee in the region of €725k (R15 million). That might sound like a decent figure for the club, but let's do a quick projection exercise. Let's assume SV Ried keeps Maart for a year and then opts to sell him to a much wealthier club. What sort of fee could they attract? At least triple what they paid Chiefs for his services? Do European clubs have any respect for football teams in South Africa? Image: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix In an interview with Robert Marawa, Bafana winger Percy Tau sounds as though a return to South Africa could be on the cards if the price is right. 'I am Kaizer [Motaung], I at Naturena offer you R450,000 a month. Do you accept?' Robert Marawa asked Percy Tau. 'For how many years?' Tau asked. 'You sign two with an option,' Marawa added. 'Perfect,' Tau confirmed. 30-year-old Bosnian Dzenan Zajmovic bagged seven goals and two assists in the league last season, as well as three goals from two Nedbank Cup outings. The country's big clubs could be interested in signing the Belgium-born star on a free transfer this winter. Kaizer Chiefs collect R15 million, but were they taken for a p*#s?

Kaizer Chiefs will need to balance the books by selling some stars as their incoming recruitment drive continues apace. Skipper Yusuf Maart is close to completing a move to the Austrian Bundesliga with SV Ried. Is R15 million a fair price for a quality operator of Maart's calibre? There's talk that the Sea Robbers will listen to offers of R32 million for the winger. Make no mistake, Rele Mofokeng is a brilliant player, potentially the South African with the highest ceiling. What message does this send to European clubs wanting to smuggle South African talent if Mofokeng signs for a team in Spain, Italy, France or Germany and then gets sold for roughly five times that number? Is South Africa a sweatshop? WOW: Nkota secures move to Saudi Arabia The future is now for Pirates.
