Clayton wins first Euro Tour title in two years

Jonny Clayton has secured his third European Tour event win with victory over Germany's Niko Springer in the Dutch Darts Championship final. Clayton defeated Springer, who is ranked 93rd in the world, 8-6 and secure his first European Tour event win since winning the Austrian Open two years ago. Earlier in the day Clayton had defeated Ross Smith and Danny Noppert before a 7-5 victory over Luke Humphries. The 50-year-old Welshman had lost to Josh Rock of Northern Ireland in the final of last year's Dutch Darts Championship. "This is a great feeling," said Clayton, who becomes the new world number five following his success in Rosmalen. "I missed out to Josh Rock last year and I've gone one better this year. I've also had a ProTour win in Rosmalen, so this may be my new lucky home! "What a player Niko is. He's got such a big future. He's a great lad with a great attitude, and he shows it on that dartboard. "I came back somehow, and then I managed to get ahead and stay ahead. I'm so pleased to get over the line; it's brilliant."

Eogene says first senior title a spark to fire him up for more

PETALING JAYA: It was relief for shuttler Eogene Ewe (pic) after ending his wait for a senior men's singles title in the Slovenian Open. Eogene fought hard to beat South Korea's Yoo Tae Bin 21-19, 12-21, 21-17 in an hour in Maribor on Sunday to clinch the International Series title. Although it was only a lower tier event, the breakthrough was still memorable for the 20-year-old, who is currently ranked No. 113 in the world. 'This win is memorable for me as it's my first title in a senior tournament. I wish more titles will follow this breakthrough,' said Eogene. 'I didn't think too much and just played my best here. I would like to say that this is a good start for me but I still need to focus and prepare for my next tournaments.' Eogene's previous best results were reaching the semi-finals in the International Challenge tournaments in Vietnam and at home last year. The youngster is looking to continue his good form when he competes next in the Austrian Open starting on Thursday. Meanwhile, reigning Malaysia Games (Sukma) champion Wong Ling Ching also won her first senior international crown in the women's singles by defeating Indonesia's Deswanti Nurtertiati 21-16, 21-15. The victory will come as a boost for Ling Ching after she initially decided to quit the sport and pursue her studies last November before reversing her decision and returning to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). The Sarawakian, who is currently ranked No. 100, will be eager to build on her encouraging showing and move up the ranks. FINAL RESULTS Men's singles: Eogene Ewe (Mas) bt Yoo Tae Bin (Kor) 21-19, 12-21, 21-17. Men's doubles: Huang Tsung-i-Ling Ting-yu (Tpe) bt Jonathan Gosal-Adrian Pratama (Ind) 27-25, 19-21, 21-17. Coach Amelia wants Dania-Zi Yu to step up against seniors

Young combo: Under-18 champions Dania Sofea Zaidi and Low Zi Yu have a chance to shine in Europe. PETALING JAYA: The challenge is going to get doubly hard for promising women's doubles shuttlers Dania Sofea Zaidi-Low Zi Yu when they begin a long stretch of competitions against seniors. The reigning national girls' Under-18 champions will be tested when they play together for the first time in back-to-back international tournaments – the Slovak Open which starts on Wednesday, Slovanian Open (May 14-18) and Austrian Open (May 22-25). Dania, 17 and Zi Yu, 14 have been making waves together, notably capturing silver in the World Junior Championships last October and their first international title in the Dutch Junior Open in February. Junior women's doubles coach Amelia Alicia Anscelly said Dania-Zi Yu still have room for improvements and the three events will be used to gauge their consistency and fitness. 'Dania-Zi Yu need to be consistent and maintain their fitness to play back-to-back tournaments,' said Amelia. 'After the Dutch outing, their fitness was a bit low and mentally they were tired as well. 'We are now trying to help them prepare for back-to-back competitions in Europe and hopefully we can see some changes in them. 'They also need to be prepared to play in senior tourneys where the level will be higher.' The tournaments in Europe will also serve as preparation for Dania-Zi Yu ahead of the Asian Junior Championships from July 18-27 in Solo, Indonesia. The pair will be Malaysia's best bet to win gold in the competition but Amelia does not want to put too much pressure on her charges. 'They won the silver in the last world junior meet, of course there are increased expectations on them,' said Amelia. 'But I don't want to put too much pressure on them and push them too fast too soon. 'We will continue sending them for senior events, so that they will ready to make the step up when they move up to the senior team. We also want to help them improve their rankings,' added Amelia. Dania will also compete in Europe with Datu Anif Isaac in the mixed doubles.

Austrian Darts Open 2025 LIVE RESULTS: Latest updates as Chris Dobey into the quarter-finals on Finals Day in Graz

IT is the final day of the Austrian Darts Open - but some household names have had a shock exit from the tournament! Nathan Aspinall crashed out in the second round with a 6-2 defeat to Kevin Doets. Shortly after the Asp's elimination, fellow Premier League star Stephen Bunting went out after a 6-4 defeat to Matt Campbell. As for who's in action, Chris Dobey and Peter Wright headline the hopeful pack in Graz, as Danny Noppert and Martin Schindler also feature. By Laurence Ryan The Wizard of Aus Welcome to SunSport's coverage of the Austrian Darts Open 2025. Many of the big darting names are missing this weekend, giving Jonny Clayton a good shot at winning a third Austrian Open in his career. After playing Premier League Darts night 12 in Liverpool last night, Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting are set to jet across Europe to take on the tournament. Clayton and Bunting come into the tournament at first and second seed. Last weekend's German Darts Grand Prix runner-up Gian van Veen looks to right the wrongs of his defeat at the hands of Michael van Gerwen in Austria. Van Veen had a rivalry with Luke Littler on the youth scene, and BEAT the world No 2 last weekend, setting him up perfectly for a run at the title in the absence of Littler and Van Gerwen. The Order of Merit is also on the line for The Bullet Stephen Bunting, as he looks to extend his lead over Rob Cross and Jonny Clayton in fourth place. His Premier League Darts season looks set to end before the trip to the O2 in May, so extra cash for an Order of Merit qualification would go a long way for The Bullet.
