Abu Dhabi: Fundraising initiative launched for early disease screening

17 May 2025 21:36 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, Abu Dhabi Government's official channel to receive social contributions, have signed a landmark agreement to jointly launch a fundraising initiative to support early screening programmes for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes among basic health insurance holders in Abu Dhabi initiative focuses on cancer screening coverage, providing free cancer screening to people with basic health insurance, including women aged 40 to 75 for cervical, breast, and colorectal cancer screening, and men aged 40 to 75 for colorectal cancer screening. In addition, the initiative includes a programme for the early detection of heart disease and diabetes programme aims to detect type 2 diabetes and prediabetes early among individuals with basic insurance, offering men and women aged 40 to 75 comprehensive screenings for diabetes and cardiovascular disease risks. This initiative seeks to reduce complications and support early intervention to improve overall strategic collaboration highlights the joint commitment of both entities to enhance public health standards and guarantee inclusive access to essential early detection services. The partnership lays out a framework for extensive cooperation in developing, funding, and implementing a screening coverage project to aid populations with only basic health insurance coverage in Abu Excellency Dr Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre and His Excellency Engineer Abdulla Hamid Al Ameri, Director General of the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, signed the agreement during the 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).His Excellency Dr Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, said: "The partnership with the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an enables us to expand the reach of our preventive health efforts and deliver targeted screening services that can save lives. This initiative is a testament to our shared vision of building a healthier Abu Dhabi through early detection and proactive care for all residents, regardless of their health insurance coverage."His Excellency Engineer Abdulla Hamid Al Ameri, Director General of the Authority of Social Contribution Ma'an, said: "This partnership underscores the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an's commitment to uniting the community including public, private, and civil sectors—by channelling contributions towards projects that address social priorities to enhance the quality of life across Abu Dhabi. Our goal is to provide essential health services to those in need, while fostering a culture of giving and collective responsibility. This initiative empowers community members to actively participate in addressing social priorities, thereby driving social development."Under the terms of the agreement, the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an will lead the fundraising campaign through its official platforms, mobilising contributions from the public and private sectors and individuals. ADPHC will be responsible for project implementation, which includes selecting service providers, managing project execution, and ensuring quality and compliance with best practices.'The initiative will be prominently featured on the authority's official contributions platform, where community members can directly support the cause. ADPHC will closely coordinate with the authority to ensure budget allocation transparency and provide detailed progress reports throughout the project's lifecycle. Abu Dhabi: The Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, the Abu Dhabi Government's official channel to receive social contributions, and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the emirate, recognised esteemed contributors for their support to key health projects that address social priorities in Abu Dhabi. The recognition event took place during the Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025 (ADGHW) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The contributors were recognised by Her Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and His Excellency Abdullah Al Ameri, Director General of the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, in the presence of global and regional industry experts and partners. Through the strength of their long-standing collaboration, the Authority and DoH have supported various projects in healthcare, in areas such as medical research and development, lifesaving dialysis treatments, covering health insurance cost, and supporting families in grief. These initiatives aim to transform healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes and underscores both parties' commitment of working together to enhance the well-being of the individuals in the city of Abu Dhabi. The list of contributors honoured included leading organisations, including the Gates Foundation, M42, Pure Health, e&, United Al Saqr Group, Mubadala Investment Company, and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. In addition, global pharmaceutical companies including AstraZeneca, Novartis, Roche, Janssen, Eli Lilly, MSD, Bayer, Ipsen, Sanofi, Sobi, and Pfizer were also honored. A number of individual contributors were also honored, including the late Hamad Suhail Al Khaili, Mr. Salem Al Shuebi, Sheikh Hamad Sultan Al Darmaki and His Excellency Khalifa Nasser Al Suwaidi, in recognition of their role in supporting major healthcare projects and driving innovation and medical research. As part of its efforts to support social initiatives aimed at addressing pressing social priorities in Abu Dhabi, the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an connects the government, private entities, social enterprises, and non-profits to raise and deploys funds towards partner-led initiatives to create long-lasting impact and enhance the quality of life for members of the Abu Dhabi community. ADGHW is a major government initiative from DoH and serves as a platform for innovation and collaboration under the theme 'Towards Longevity: Redefining Health and Well-being.' It places a strong emphasis on community-driven health and well-being, with a proactive approach centred around preventive, personalised, and holistic care. Four core themes will guide discussions and initiatives: Longevity and Precision Health; Health System Resilience & Sustainability; Digital Health & AI; and Investment in Life Sciences. 13 Mar 2025 11:20 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)In line with the UAE's Year of Community initiative to create inclusive spaces for collaboration and belonging, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has completed the first phase of the Community Contribution Project building in the Al Mafraq area in partnership with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an. Covering an area of 4,300sqm, the building will empower and support deserving and outstanding students throughout their academic 30 per cent completion, the milestone was attended by Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of ADU, His Excellency Abdullah Al Ameri, Director General of the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, and His Excellency Faisal Alhmoudi, Executive Director of the Social Investment Fund at the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, with the presence of prominent representatives from both this initiative, the building will feature six shops, 16 offices, four warehouses and a marketplace. ADU will lease the building to community members, supporting local business growth. Furthermore, a proportion of rental revenue will be dedicated to support student financing through scholarshipsProfessor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University (ADU), said: 'This project represents a significant milestone in ADU's commitment to fostering a culture of giving and creating a lasting positive impact in the UAE and beyond. These projects are led by various partners including the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), Mubadala Foundation, Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Al Noor Centre, among Al Ameri, Director-General of the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an commented, 'Established to drive community engagement and build a culture of giving, The Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an plays an integral role in enhancing the quality of life for community members in Abu Dhabi. In the 'Year of Community', the Authority's evolving growth is evident in its year-on-year increase in community contributions, a further testament of its dedication to building a collaborative community that supports one another.'Faisal Al Hmoudi, Social Investment Fund Executive Director at the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, said, 'As the government of Abu Dhabi's official channel to receive social contributions, we are dedicated to channelling contributions towards social projects led by our partners across various sectors to promote community development and build a cooperative, active and inclusive society. By fostering the values of shared responsibility and community giving among community members, we build a thriving community in Abu Dhabi.'A total of AED98.6 million of community contributions was allocated across several sectors, benefiting various community groups including People of Determination, senior citizens, orphans, students, patients, amongst others. A substantial portion was allocated towards the health sector, with a total of AED36.8 million to support 9 projects for social healthcare social sector received AED33.6 million through 26 projects to address social priorities, including empowering community groups in Abu Dhabi, to be active members of the community.A significant portion, AED20 million was allocated towards the education sector, divided across 8 projects.
