BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Jordy Bahl threw a one-hit shutout and hit a home run, Samantha Bland drove in four runs and Nebraska routed Southeastern Louisiana 8-0 to win the Baton Rouge Regional on Sunday. The Cornhuskers (41-13) advance to the Super Regional at seventh-seeded Tennessee next weekend. The Lions (50-16) beat 10th-seeded host LSU 4-3 and 8-7 but lost to Nebraska in between, 14-1. Advertisement Bahl hit a 3-2 pitch leading off the bottom of the first inning for her 22nd home run and fourth of the regional, giving herself all the support she would need. Ava Kuszak also hit a home run one out later, giving her 20 and making Bahl and Kuszak the first two Cornhuskers to have 20 home runs in the same season.. Bland had a two-run double in the second and a two-run single in the fourth. Bahl finished 2 for 2 with three runs scored. Bland was 3 for 4 and Kuszak 2 for 3 with three RBI. Nebraska closes out the regular season with sweep over Maryland on record-setting Sunday The Nebraska softball (38-12, 17-5) closed out the regular season on Sunday morning, wrapping up its conference series with Maryland (18-31, 3-19). The Huskers earned the victory and the sweep on the day, taking down the Terrapins 9-1 in six. This marked Nebraska's 22nd run-rule win of the season, the most in program history. The team also drew a crowd of 2,628 on Sunday to bring the total weekend attendance to 7,929, the highest-attended three-game series in school history. The Huskers also set a new program record in total runs on the season, finishing with 409 across 50 games. Nebraska wasted no time getting things going, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. The Huskers scored twice in the second and once in the third, before Ava Kuszak hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to end it. Jordyn Bahl also hit a home run, leading the team off in the bottom of the first with her only hit of the game. Kuszak finished 2-for-3 at the plate, earning three RBIs. Bella Bacon led the team in hits, striking three, while also earning one RBI. Samantha Bland, Ava Bredwell and Olivia DiNardo all brought in one RBI and one hit on the day. Bahl (22-5) secured the win in the pitching circle, starting the game and throwing 4.0 scoreless and hitless innings, striking out seven batters. Kylee Magee tossed the final 2.0 innings, earning two strikeouts and allowing three hits and one run. Nebraska now heads to West LaFayette, Indiana for the Big Ten Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday. The Huskers start their tournament run on Thursday after finishing in the top four in the conference standings. Nebraska takes series over Maryland in first-ever sellout crowd at Bowlin Stadium The Nebraska softball team (37-12, 16-5) and the Maryland Terrapins (18-30, 3-18) met for the second game in their conference series on Saturday afternoon. After the Terrapins struck first, No. 20 Nebraska scored nine unanswered to take the win and the series. Maryland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, with the Huskers playing from behind until the fourth. Nebraska scored four runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Huskers added four more runs across the next two innings, putting the game away. The Huskers won the series in front of its first-ever sellout crowd of 3,021 fans at Bowlin Stadium. This eclipsed Nebraska's previous best record of 2,699 fans, set earlier in the season against Indiana. The Huskers' series win is their sixth conference series win of the year, and they ended the season undefeated in conference series wins. Ava Kuszak led Nebraska in RBIs, earning two off her only hit of the game: a triple. Abbie Squier finished 2-for-2 at the plate, delivering a triple and a double for one RBI. Samantha Bland, Olivia DiNardo and Hannah Camenzind all pitched in two hits in the win. Bland and DiNardo also drove in an RBI. Ava Bredwell and Bella Bacon also finished with one RBI each. Nebraska softball blows out Montana in 16-3 five inning bout to close out Troy Cox Classic
The Nebraska softball team concluded the Troy Cox Classic against Montana on Sunday morning. The Huskers capped off their dominant weekend with another big outing, demolishing the Grizzlies 16-3 in five innings. This is the first time in program history that Nebraska scored 10 or more runs in five consecutive games. The Huskers finished the weekend with a batting average of hit .446 with 20 home runs, outscoring their opponents 69-9. Nebraska scored in all four innings in its win over Montana, including nine in the third to go up 13-3. Ava Kuszak led the Huskers in the blowout, going a perfect 4-for-4 in the batter's box and delivering three home runs to finish with six RBIs. Kuszak's three home runs tied the school record for home runs in a game. She is only the third player in Nebraska history to finish a game with three home runs. Jordyn Bahl also hit a perfect 4-for-4, getting two doubles and a triple for one RBI. Hannah Camenzind earned one hit and two RBI while also closing out the game in the pitching circle. There, she threw two strikeouts and allowed one hit. Caitlin Olensky started in the circle for Nebraska and finished with a strikeout while allowing two hits and three runs across two innings. Emmerson Cope earned the win in the circle, pitching through the third and fourth innings, throwing two strikeouts and allowing two hits. The Huskers now stand with an 8-2 record on the season. They head west to compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this weekend. Nebraska starts the tournament on Thursday in a doubleheader against Baylor and UCLA. The team faces Baylor at 4:30 p.m., then UCLA at 9:30 p.m., with both games streaming on FloSoftball.
