What a run Wrexham women had to finish as runners-up in Hong Kong

The Reds lost just one of the six matches they played at the HKFC Standard Chartered Soccer Sevens Tournament, finishing the event as runners-up. Wrexham became the first ever women's side to compete in the tournament from outside of Asia. The Reds began the event with their match-up versus Thailand's Chonburi FC and Grace Morris' strike confirmed a 1-0 win. Next up was a meeting with Eastern Thunder, from Singapore, and a brilliant Ava Suckley effort from long-range made sure of another 1-0 outcome as Wrexham concluded the opening day with a 100 per cent record. Day two opened with a clash against Hong Kong FC and the Reds maintained their unbeaten record via a 0-0 draw. Suckley grabbed a key leveller as Wrexham secured another point from a 1-1 draw against Hong Kong's TSL in their next match-up. In the final group match, Wrexham played out a 0-0 draw against Kitchee Sports Club. The top-two sides would go through to the women's cup final and one of these would be Wrexham, who finished second in the group phase. Kitchee Sports Club would be their opponents in the showpiece and a slender 1-0 defeat meant Wrexham finished a great event as runners-up. Manager Gareth Owen told the club's X site: "I always expect the girls to wear this badge with pride and passion, and they have." Wrexham's squad consisted of 10 players, with a number of the Adran U19s North title winners included. These were Chloe Ankers, Morris and Leah Burke, who have all made first team appearances. They were joined by first team players Lili Jones, Suckley and Erin Lovett, who added invaluable experience. Captain Jones told the tournament's website: 'It's massive for our profile to be here. 'For our women's team to be the first from the club to come to Asia is huge in Wrexham's history and it's an honour to be part of it. Everyone has been so friendly and it's a great set-up.' Wrexham squad: Chloe Ankers; Annie Collins; Grace Morris; Seren Cashen; Leah Burke; Bella Devereux; Lili Jones; Erin Lovett; Ava Suckley; Mia Roberts.

Adran Premier: Wrexham comeback stuns Cardiff

Championship Conference Cardiff City 1-2 Wrexham: Wrexham came from behind to beat reigning champions Cardiff to clinch a sixth consecutive win in all competitions. Lily Billingham put the Bluebirds ahead with her third goal of the season, although Ava Suckley scored for the fourth game in succession to level proceedings. Abbie Iddenden netted for the ninth time this season to complete the turnaround in the second half and earn the north Wales side victory at Cardiff International Sports Stadium. Cardiff's lead at the top is cut to five points. Wrexham rise to third after a ninth league win of the New Saints 1-2 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Briton Ferry came from behind to earn a dramatic win at TNS. Lexi Jones headed the hosts in front after just 15 minutes at Park Hall - her 12th goal of the campaign in all competitions. Alison Witts' penalty was saved by Megan Bowen, but Lowri Ridings equalised midway through the second half before Laura-May Walkley won it for Ferry five minutes from time. Briton Ferry - who are second - move to within five points of leaders Cardiff. TNS drop to fourth. Plate Conference Barry Town United 1-3 Aberystwyth Town: Aberystwyth produced a fine fightback to clinch their third league victory of the campaign and heap more misery on Barry. Jasmine Turner notched her first league goal since scoring in the corresponding fixture in September to put Barry ahead. But Libby Isaac equalised from the penalty spot before Carys Bufton put the visitors ahead at Jenner Park. Lily Moralee-Hughes capped off the win in the final minute of the contest. Barry - who had Erin Murray sent off in added time - stay sixth having won just once in 11 matches in all competitions. Town are seventh but moved nine points clear of bottom side Cardiff Met 1-2 Swansea City: Swansea ended their six-game winless run in all competitions with a hard-fought win at Cardiff Met. Aimee Deacon hit the post for the Swans early on, with Charlotte Haynes denying Niamh Duggan at the other end. Celyn Garton turned into her own net in the 71st minute, although India Shanahan looked to have earned the hosts an unlikely point before Steph Turner scored her first goal of the season in the 88th minute to snatch victory for the away side. The Swans stay fifth, seven points clear of Barry. Met sit rock bottom and are nine points adrift of safety.
