Remove Ads New Delhi: Kyrgyzstan has withdrawn its envoy from Islamabad for organising a CEO Forum in the middle of India-Pakistan conflict last week as the Central Asian country's President felt that such a forum could be viewed as a step that can jeopardise its ties with New Kyrgyz leadership felt that the forum could project that the country is taking a pro-Pakistan stance in the middle of a conflict, ET has learnt. The decision to participate in the forum may have been perceived as clear support for Pakistan to the detriment of relations with India. ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan, Avazbek Atakhanov, Friday, called on the Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, to discuss matters related to Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan rail link and invited Railways minister to attend the meeting of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Intergover nmental commission next month. During the meeting both the sides, while expressing determination to further strengthen railway cooperation, agreed to promote economic, cultural and trade relations. Abbasi emphasised on improving trade links and travel facilities between the two countries. The ambassador Kyrgyzstan of appreciated the government's economic policies and said that Pakistan's current situation has improved and the economy has strengthened. Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan discuss technical exchanges and joint projects for development in the railway sector. 'Railway cooperation between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan will improve economic relations and strengthen people-to-people contacts,' Abbasi said. Abbasi stressed the need to strengthen relations with Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian Republics (CARs), saying railways has great potential to not only serve the travellers but also goods transport. He assured full support for increasing cooperation in the railway sector with Kyrgyzstan. The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan invited Railways Minister Abbasi to attend the meeting of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Inte rgovernmental Com mission. On February 26, 2025, Uzbekistan and Pakistan during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to Uzbekistan had agreed to establish a tripartite committee with Afghanistan to address issues that are hindering the implementation of a proposed railway project connecting the three countries. According to officials, Russia is also keen to participate in the Trans-Afghanistan rail link and Russia has signed an agreement with Uzbekistan. According to Russia's Ministry of Transport, two possible routes are under consideration: Route (i) Mazar-e-Sharif – Herat – Dilaram– Kandahar – Chaman (Pakistan) and (ii) Route 2: Termez (Uzbekistan) – Naibabad – Logar – Harlachi (Pakistan). Kyrgyz envoy, Jam discuss trade, economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan, Avazbek Atakhanov, called on Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Rana Ihsaan Afzal, coordinator to the prime minister, and senior officials of the Ministry of Commerce were also present during the meeting. The commerce minister emphasised the importance Pakistan attaches to its historic and cultural ties with Kyrgyzstan. He expressed Pakistan's strong desire to transform these brotherly relations into a comprehensive economic partnership for mutual benefit. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration across various sectors, especially in trade, investment, and regional connectivity. Jam Kamal Khan briefed the ambassador on Pakistan's improving economic indicators, including declining inflation and interest rates, reduced energy costs, and a stable foreign exchange market—factors that indicate macroeconomic stability and present new opportunities for trade and investment. He stressed the need to address trade-related issues and encouraged greater engagement between the business communities of both sides. Ambassador Atakhanov appreciated the reform efforts undertaken by the Pakistani government and noted that a major business delegation from Kyrgyzstan is expected to visit Pakistan in the near future. He also underscored Pakistan's geographical importance as a trade hub for the region and emphasised Kyrgyzstan's interest in boosting cooperation for regional economic growth and stability. Both sides discussed the development of new trade routes and reaffirmed the need to open fresh avenues for trade connectivity. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue high-level engagement and coordination, including the upcoming 5th session of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Joint Inter-Governmental Commission scheduled for May 2025.
