PHOTO: UNUSUAL ENTERTAINMENT SINGAPORE – Japanese pop star Ayumi Hamasaki will hold a concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium on July 5. Tickets from $188 will go on sale on May 26 via Ticketmaster. This will be the 46-year-old's first solo concert here. Her label, Avex, first announced the concert – without details on the venue, date and ticketing – in April. The show is part of her Ayumi Hamasaki Asia Tour 2025 A – I Am Ayu – tour that kicked off in Tokyo on April 8. Other stops include Hong Kong and Taipei, as well as Japanese cities Nagoya, Hiroshima, Osaka, Sendai and Fukuoka. The 2024 leg of the I Am Ayu tour saw her perform in Chinese cities Shanghai, Guangzhou and Ningbo. The tour features an immersive four-sided stage, which delivers a 360-degree experience from all sides of the venue. 'This year, we start from Japan – and we're bringing it to Asia,' the singer says in a statement. The singer, known as Ayu to her fans, made her debut in 1998. She is one of the most well known J-pop singers of the early 2000s, inspiring fashion trends and charting with songs such as A (1999) and Seasons (2000). In Singapore, she performed at the Japanese music festival A-Nation at Marina Bay Sands in 2014. She also performed at the MTV Asia Music Awards in Singapore in 2002. She wasn't just focused on singing from the start—she initially went there to try her hand at modelling and acting. Rapid rise to fame Her music career took off in 1998 with the release of her debut single , 'Poker Face', followed by her first major-label album, 'A Song for ××', in 1999. It was a huge hit , topping the Oricon charts for five weeks and selling over a million copies. Her relatable and insightful lyrics were a primary reason for her rapid rise to fame. Over the years that followed, Hamasaki just kept releasing amazing music . Ten more albums were released, each selling over a million copies in Japan. Duty (2000), her third album , almost reached three million in sales. A Best (2001), her first compilation album , cemented her superstar status. It sold over four million copies domestically and represented more than 40% of her record label's income. After the massive success of her A Best album, it seems that Hamasaki felt she could explore her creativity. That's when she started playing around with her music and the lyrics she wrote. She began mixing in English lyrics, starting with her Rainbow album in 2002. Her subsequent albums explored various genres, from electronic dream-pop to rock.

J-pop superstar Ayumi Hamasaki is making a long-awaited return to Singapore in 2025 as part of her new Asia tour titled I Am Ayu Ep II , her label Avex announced on April 9. The tour will see Hamasaki performing in several cities across the region, with the 46-year-old updating her Instagram bio on April 10 to include Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Sendai, and Fukuoka, among others. Her last performance in Singapore was in 2014 during the Japanese music festival A-Nation held at Marina Bay Sands. Details such as dates, venues and ticket sales are still under wraps. Despite her hearing challenges — Hamasaki revealed in 2008 that she had lost hearing in her left ear and in 2017 said her right ear had also begun to deteriorate — the singer continues to perform and produce music.
