Top 2026 offensive lineman Charlie Thom commits to Notre Dame
The Notre Dame football recruiting train just keeps on rolling. Class of 2026 Avon Old Farms (Avon, CT) offensive lineman Charlie Thom has committed to the Fighting Irish on Tuesday afternoon, giving Marcus Freeman, Joe Rudolph and Co. a sixth offensive lineman in this class. The pledge comes just seven days after ND offered Thom following a strong camp performance. He made the decision to commit to the Irish following his official visit this past weekend. Thom, a 6-foot-6, 275-pounder, will move to the trenches this season after playing tight end to start his prep career. He had offers from a plethora of programs, including Michigan State, Penn State and Stanford. Thom is ranked as the No. 852 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. Notre Dame's 2026 class now sits at 21 commitments, and the Irish aren't done yet. Old state house in Hartford celebrates 229th birthday
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut's old state house celebrated its 229th birthday Saturday and members of the community showed up to engage in the festivities. The historic landmark first opened as one of Connecticut's two state capitols on May 11, 1796 and was used for about 150 years. Legendary Avon Old Farms coach enshrined in Hall of Fame Due to the building being threatened with destruction, members of the community wanted to celebrate the the important historical connection with artistic crafts and birthday cake. 'If you're an adult, you can come learn about Connecticut, learn about Hartford and how they were involved in different historical things,' Alison Sharaf of Hartford said. Legendary Avon Old Farms coach enshrined in Hall of Fame
AVON, Conn. (WTNH) — A legendary hockey coach was honored on Saturday in Avon. John T. Gardner amassed over 800 wins in his 47-year career as the coach of Avon Old Farms hockey, where he coached and developed college, Olympic and professional players. Avon student dominates Pi Day competition, recites 540 digits from memory Gardner was inducted into the Avon Old Farms Athletics Hall of Fame. Many of his former players attended the ceremony. 'We're here to honor the greatest coach and mentor in the country, and someone who's had an enormous impact on countless lives in the hockey rink and outside of it,' said John Mori, class of 2005. 'All of us former players are truly grateful for the way he has influenced us and shaped our lives not only when we were here but also now in our professional and personal lives.'
