These sci-fi books ask the most basic question: Are we our memories?
There's been a deluge of science fiction and fantasy books about life after calamities, including climate-change-fueled disasters and weirder catastrophes. And like most great works of postapocalyptic fiction, these books spend much of their time looking backward. Like Susanna Kwan's recent 'Awake in the Floating City,' they sift through the ruins of our own present to reconstruct what's been lost.
