'Nilgiris: A Shared Wilderness' Wildlife Documentary Film to Release in Theatres Nationwide

PNN Bangalore (Karnataka) [India], July 17: Nilgiris: A Shared Wilderness, a feature-length wildlife documentary film on India's first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - the Nilgiris, will be released in theatres across India on July 18, 2025. Presented by Felis Films and Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, and distributed nationwide by Dheeraj Films. The Nilgiris is the first feature-length wildlife documentary to receive a nationwide theatrical release. The film has already won multiple international awards and received acclaim for its cinematic excellence and storytelling. Directed by Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Sandesh Kadur, the film was shot in 8K resolution using the best of Sony Professional and RED cameras. It is a true cinematic celebration of the region's wildlife and landscapes. Speaking about the film, Rohini Nilekani, Executive Producer of the film and Chairperson of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, said, "With this film - Nilgiris: A Shared Wilderness, we hope to awaken people to the incredible beauty and biodiversity of this ancient and unique biosphere - the largest protected forest area in the country, now undergoing rapid change driven by human activity. If we wish to continue to conserve it, Samaaj, Sarkaarand Bazaar will have to work in unison to nurture this ecosystem. The documentary is a call to action for everyone who feels connected to these sacred landscapes." Sandesh Kadur, Director and Cinematographer of the film, said, "This is the story of a new wilderness, a mostly human-made landscape, where wildlife continues to adapt and thrive. Where else in the world can you have black leopards, gaur, sloth bears, etc., all living in a tea garden? Although it's in a constant state of change, it also shows nature's resilience and adaptability to survive the odds - if only we allow them the space to do so." Trailer: Releasing in: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysore, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Ooty, Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Kochi, Trivandrum, Delhi, and other cities across India. As part of a nationwide education initiative, Nilgiris: A Shared Wilderness will also be screened through exclusive, discounted student shows across major cities. The initiative aligns with the NEP 2020 vision of encouraging experiential and environmental learning. "I urge school principals, teachers, and parents to bring children to the theatres for this special experience. When young minds witness the beauty of our land--its forests, animals, and landscapes--on the big screen, they are inspired to love, to learn, and to protect. Watching a wildlife film like this in a theatre is rare--and powerful. Unlike small screens, the big screen brings every detail to life. With its high-resolution imagery and immersive sound, it feels as if you're right inside the forest with the animals," says Rohini Nilekani, Executive Producer of Nilgiris: A Shared Wilderness. About Felis Creations A Panda Award-winning company, Felis Creations is a Bangalore-based natural history production house founded by Sandesh Kadur, a BAFTA-winning filmmaker and National Geographic Explorer. This stylish NoMad hotel was just named New York's best by Travel + Leisure magazine

In a city packed with dazzling hotel openings, heritage icons and scene-stealing rooftops, earning the title of New York's best hotel is no easy feat. But Travel + Leisure readers have spoken—and the winner of this year's World's Best Awards is the opulent, maximalist dreamscape known as the Fifth Avenue Hotel in NoMad. A relative newcomer, the hotel opened in late 2023 and quickly became a favorite for both well-heeled travelers and in-the-know New Yorkers. With interiors by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the 153-room property feels like the love child of a Gilded Age mansion and a Wes Anderson set, blending jewel-toned walls, antique curiosities and luxurious amenities (hello, Dyson hairdryers and 'maxi'-bars) into a singular experience. One T+L voter raved, 'Everything was on point from the moment I walked in the door until I left a week later.' But it's not just about good looks. The service at The Fifth Avenue Hotel is as elevated as its design. Guests staying in the Mansion suites, located in the historic 1907 building, originally designed by McKim, Mead & White, are greeted by personal butlers who offer welcome drinks and iPad-powered tutorials on controlling everything from lighting to blinds. It's the kind of place where if your room needs a walkthrough, you know you've made a good choice. Downstairs, the hotel's food and drink offerings are just as seductive. The cozy, wood-paneled Portrait Bar serves meticulously crafted cocktails in a setting that feels like a secret society's private lounge. And the hotel's signature restaurant, Café Carmellini, is helmed by James Beard Award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini, who delivers French-Italian elegance with dishes like duck tortellini and squab en croûte. When it comes to the competition, this year's list was full of shake-ups: None of 2024's top 10 hotels returned, proving just how fast the city's hospitality scene evolves. Other notable entries included Gansevoort Meatpacking at No. 2 and Hotel Barrière Fouquet's New York at No. 3. But it's The Fifth Avenue Hotel that reigns supreme in 2025—and with its intoxicating scent, impeccable service and theatrical flair, it's giving New York something rare: a hotel that feels like an escape, even when you're right in the middle of it all.

What to Eat at D.C.'s Top Tennis Tournament

A record count of Michelin-starred restaurants — seven in all – will serve at the Mubadala Citi DC Open. The week-long event at Rock Creek Tennis Center (Saturday, July 19-Sunday, July 27) — the only combined men's and women's 500-level tennis tournament in the world — draws more than 70,000 fans each year to the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center (5220 16th Street NW). After debuting at the then-named Citi Open in 2023, three-Michelin-starred Inn at Little Washington returns with truffle popcorn from chef and proprietor Patrick O'Connell (still only available in the Citi Lounge and suites only, however). Nick Stefanelli of NoMa's Masseria plates Italian cuisine, and chefs Miguel Guerra and Tatiana Mora of newly starred Mita will serve polished vegetable dishes. Others offering off-court delights include Albi's James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Rafidi, Spanish celebrity chef José Andrés's cooling gazpacho for the hot tennis nights, and chef Jeremiah Langhorne of The Dabney, who plans to prep his mid-Atlantic catfish sandwiches on sweet potato rolls. Debuting this year is Ben's Chili Bowl, U Street's decades-old institution serving its iconic half-smokes. And Cava, the now-national chain born in the DMV, also brings its Mediterranean bowls to the tournament for the first time. Held every year since 1969, the pro tournament kicked off a partnership with Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Investments in 2023 to create the newly named Mubadala Citi DC Open. This June, D.C. officials announced big plans to assume control of Rock Creek Tennis Center and modernize the area and facility, which is currently owned by the federal government. The city says it wants to work in partnership with the tournament's owner Mark Ein, who has goals of his own to continue to upgrade the annual event. This year's competitive roster features seven top-10 players across the ATP and WTA Tours, and five Grand Slam champions, including D.C.-area native and World No. 12-ranked Frances Tiafoe. Tickets, starting in the $30s, are still available. Green turf-lined Market Square remains where the majority of the food action takes place. Returning favorites around the DMV includes King Street Oyster Bar (lobster rolls), Roaming Rooster (hot Nashville fried chicken sandwiches), and Duke's Grocery (Proper Burger). There's also sweets from Dolcezza and Clayboy's Shaved Ice; and Ladurée will offer its macarons at a special stand outside the main stadium. Design Cuisine returns again as the tournament's concessionaire. The tourney isn't complete without its range of drinks, alcoholic and N/A. Over at the Tequila Lounge, sponsor Mi Campo Tequila teams up with D.C.-born Taco Bamba. Chef and owner Victor Albisu is a longstanding tennis fan, spotted in the stadium for several years. The rock-and-roll Mexican spot – there since 2022 – will offer a range of tacos, grilled guacamole, loaded nachos, and two types of churros. 'We're a big tennis family, and this is one of my favorite events,' says Albisu. Several returning places for tippling include: wine-centric Kim Crawford Summer Club, Aviation Gin Bar, Ketel One Terrace, and Heineken Beer Garden – all with dedicated drinks and some limited food options.

Mark Cuban and Wyclef Jean to headline Global Citizen's first Detroit summit on the future of cities

NEW YORK -- Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban, Grammy-winning musician Wyclef Jean of the Fugees and James Beard Award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson will headline Global Citizen's summer conference on urban revitalization in Detroit, the international anti-poverty nonprofit announced Thursday. Global Citizen is bringing its conference series to a U.S. location outside New York for the first time — and, with Detroit as its host, to a place not-so-long-ago considered the poster child for urban blight as the auto industry's decline pushed the midwestern city toward bankruptcy. The July 10 summit promises to drive commitments to sustainable development amid population shifts and technological advancements that are disrupting cities worldwide. 'That's such an important priority for me and for the organization because that's a place that's analyzing the future of cities. And what do cities mean and how do we invest in cities?' Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans told the Associated Press last month. "So, Global Citizen NOW: Detroit is going to be a huge part of our strategy.' The nonprofit aims to spotlight Detroit as an example of how investments in young adults spur economic prosperity, accessible infrastructure and food security. Presenting the conference is Bedrock, a real estate firm at the forefront of Detroit's redevelopment that's been buying up properties downtown and renovating many of them for years. With its blend of media personalities, athletes and artists, this edition resembles previous lineups that sought to rally audiences against poverty through recognizable cultural figures. It's also key to Evans' goal of growing the movement to 50 million 'global citizens' taking the platform's recommended actions by 2029. Global Citizen is expanding its footprint this year with additional sessions scheduled in Brazil, Spain and South Africa. Before the conference, Global Citizen plans a July 8 community service event around food access and youth empowerment as well as a free block party promoting Detroit nonprofits. The week's programming will end with live music at Jack White's Third Man Records, intended to celebrate what Global Citizen called 'Detroit's rich musical legacy and the power of culture to drive social change.' The city's contributions include the mainstream success of Motown Records, techno music, rap artists such as Eminem and a garage rock scene that birthed the White Stripes. Jean noted the city's pulse is "unmatched when it comes to music.' 'This ain't just about shining a light, it's about walking hand in hand with each other to get out the dark times,' Jean said in a statement. 'Real issues, real voices, real change.'
