Circle Centre Mall memories
As Circle Centre Mall's redevelopment (finally) gets rolling, we asked Axios Indy readers what era of the mall they missed the most. Here is what they had to say: 🛍️ " Not long after the mall opened ... our National Federation of the Blind chapter was able to schedule a tour. Our guides introduced us to the many accessibility features of the mall, and we toured all the floors to learn how it was laid out and what stores and other amenities were located there. I visited on my own many times after that, especially when I needed a shower gift, or a book for a friend. There were a couple of bookstores there, and a kitchen shop with lots of fun gadgets." "As a blind person living not far from downtown, I found it very convenient to ride the bus downtown and shop. Now I can shop online for most anything I want, but I do miss the ability to visit a store and compare different items before I buy," Susan J. wrote. 🏈 "The early 2010s was it for me … especially the year (Indianapolis hosted) the Super Bowl," Morgan G. told Axios. "I had just moved here from near Chicago and lived close to downtown. I didn't know a lot of people, so walking around the mall was how I passed the time and got to know more about the city. When I think of downtown, I still think of the mall first." ☀️ " Circle Centre in the summer in the late '90s and early 2000s really was a 'you had to be there' kinda situation. And you had to be fresh before you went because you never knew who you might run into," said Antonio P. "It definitely hasn't been like that in a very long time. And we got a whole generation of kids that don't know what going to the mall and hanging out with your friends all day on a Saturday feels like. I feel like the city needs that back."

Astrea is the star of Indy's rooftop bar lineup
The sun is finally shining again. Celebrate at Astrea, Indy's newest rooftop bar. Driving the views: The upscale lounge with indoor and outdoor space opened in late February on the 11th floor of the new InterContinental Hotel on Market Street, overlooking Monument Circle. The vibe: Inside has a luxe feel — lots of velvet, leather, marble. Outside was closed the day the Axios Indy team visited, but the high walls limit your views. Snag a spot in the corner nearest the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, if you can. The menu: A small, but interesting selection of craft cocktails and small bites. Cocktails run around $16. Tbh, we expected higher prices and all loved our drinks. The $15 chips and onion dip (sans caviar) were the perfect post-work snack. If you go: 17 W. Market St. Open from 4pm until midnight Sunday-Thursday and until 1am Friday and Saturday. 🍸 Cannonball Lounge another rooftop bar atop a downtown hotel. This one is on the sixth floor of Hotel Indy. 🍹 Livery, the beloved Latin American restaurant just off Mass Ave, has a second-story patio that we're totally counting. 🎳 Pins Mechanical Co., the Bottleworks duckpin bowling and arcade bar, has a sneaky second floor outdoor terrace. 🏀 Pivot is more balcony than rooftop, but it's still above the street level on the second floor of the downtown Hyatt House.

Wahlburgers in Carmel gets flipped
It appears that what was once Indiana's only Wahlburgers location has found a new tenant. 👀 The intrigue: A banner hyping the arrival of "Pacific Rim" could be seen hanging outside the doors of 1200 S. Rangeline Road in Carmel early last month, and a look through the window suggests a new restaurant to check out for Axios Indy's 'Burb Bites is coming. In September, Pacific Rim Carmel LLC was registered at that address to Kanlaya Browning, one of Indy's most prolific creators of Asian-inspired restaurants, and her business partners Supaporn Winterberg and Ah Tu. Browning and Winterberg have opened roughly a dozen restaurants together, including Mass Ave's Thaitanium and Oishi Sushi and Ramen, where Tu is the chef. What they're saying: Nothing yet. Axios Indy reached out for comment and more info, but we haven't heard back. The latest: The banner has since been removed, but work inside the business continues. Flashback: Wahlburgers operated at the Proscenium from April 2021 to June 2024. It announced its closure via a handwritten note posted on the front door. 💭 Justin's thought bubble: As we wait to learn more about Pacific Rim's launch date and menu, a peek through the window reveals a much different vibe than Wahlburgers.
