Azercosmos wins award for Azconnexus satellite broadband service

Azconnexus operates via the Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 satellites, utilising both C-band and Ku-band frequencies. Azercosmos has earned international recognition at the BroadcastPro Manufacturer Awards, where it was named “Best VSAT Service Provider” for its high-performance satellite-based broadband solution, Azconnexus. The award underscores the company’s growing stature in the global satellite communications sector and reflects the strong credibility of Azconnexus among both customers and industry professionals. Presented during the prestigious BroadcastPro Manufacturer Awards ceremony, the accolade celebrates excellence across the broadcast and media industry, recognising standout manufacturers, network operators, and service providers that are driving innovation and shaping the region’s technological landscape. Azconnexus, which leverages the capabilities of the Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 satellites, provides high-speed broadband connectivity using both C-band and Ku-band frequencies. The service is engineered to support the unique requirements of government agencies, corporate clients, and portable operations, ensuring reliable, uninterrupted communication even in remote or difficult-to-access areas. VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) technology, the foundation of Azconnexus, enables effective data transmission and broadband internet access across vast geographies. This makes it particularly valuable for critical infrastructure, industrial operations, and emergency response scenarios where terrestrial connectivity is limited or unavailable. Azercosmos’ recognition at the BroadcastPro Awards not only highlights the innovation behind Azconnexus but also marks a significant milestone for Azerbaijan’s satellite sector.

The two-day gathering aims to foster innovation, promote cross-border cooperation and ignite dialogue on the expanding role of space in shaping the global economy. With more than 420 participants from over 40 countries, the conference has drawn leaders of space agencies, government representatives, private sector pioneers and renowned experts in the field. Attendees are set to take part in a packed agenda that includes over 200 bilateral meetings, 50 expert-led speaker sessions, 21 exhibitions and eight thematic discussions, reflecting the growing interest in space as a driver of economic and technological development. In his opening remarks, Dunay Bad?rkhanov, Acting Chair of Azercosmos, said: 'STC2025 is not just a conference — it is a platform where dialogue takes action, partnerships are forged, and the future of space is co-designed.' This year’s conference underscores Azerbaijan’s strategic position as a regional hub for space innovation and collaboration, reinforcing the nation's expanding role in the global space ecosystem. The event’s opening ceremony highlighted the importance of space as more than a tool — it is a bridge connecting science and policy, industry and innovation, and global vision with local action. With events like the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in 2023, the Space Leaders’ Summit at COP29, and now STC2025, Azercosmos is rapidly evolving into a key meeting ground for international space diplomacy and strategy.

Azercosmos announces leadership transition

Samaddin Asadov has stepped down from his position as Chair of the Board of Azercosmos. Azercosmos, Azerbaijan’s space agency, has announced a leadership transition as Samaddin Asadov steps down as Chair of the Board. Asadov, who played a key role in expanding the agency’s global presence and advancing satellite communications, has been appointed Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan by presidential order. During this transition, Dunay Badirkhanov will oversee operations to maintain continuity and uphold the agency’s commitment to innovation and excellence. Badirkhanov, a seasoned industry expert, has been with Azercosmos since 2011, contributing to the launch and operations of Azerbaijan’s first satellite, Azerspace-1. He has since held various leadership roles, including Director of Satellite and Ground-Based Systems and, since 2018, Vice-Chair of the Board. Beyond Azercosmos, Badirkhanov is actively involved in international space initiatives. He has contributed to the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) since 2019, serving as Co-Chair of the International Programme Committee and an executive member of the organising team for the 74th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) held in Baku in 2023. He is also a member of the Space Communications and Navigation Committee (SCAN) and the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Administrative Committee (IDEA). In recognition of his contributions, the IAF honored him as a Young Space Leader in 2021.
