Hoax bomb threat on Gulf Air flight to Kuwait
A hoax bomb threat caused a security scare on a Gulf Air flight before the plane eventually landed safely in Kuwait, authorities said on Sunday. The man responsible for the hoax was arrested, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. It said he falsely claimed a bomb was on board while the plane, belonging to Bahrain 's flag carrier airline, was heading to Kuwait International Airport. The alert was passed to Kuwait's interior ministry and triggered 'security procedures and protocols' at the airport, said directorate spokesman Abdullah Al Rajhi in a statement published by the Kuwait News Agency. He said all passengers were 'safe and sound' after landing at the airport. Security checks confirmed there was no bomb on board flight GF213. The directorate said traffic at the airport was unaffected. In a separate incident, a man was charged this week with making a bomb threat on his Instagram account while on board an Etihad flight earlier this year. Azim Shah Abubakar Shah, 22, was charged by a court in Singapore on Thursday and faces a prison sentence of up to seven years, as well as a fine of up to $50,000. It is alleged he threatened to blow up the plane while travelling to Abu Dhabi in February.

Singapore man charged over alleged bomb hoax on Etihad plane at Changi
SINGAPORE, June 6 — A man who allegedly made a false bomb threat while on a flight at Changi Airport has been charged with communicating false information, authorities said yesterday. Channel News Asia (CNA) reported that Azim Shah Abubakar Shah is accused of posting a message on Instagram Stories stating, 'no one here knows I'm going to blow the plane up', shortly after boarding an Etihad Airways aircraft on the evening of February 14. According to court documents, the post was visible to 16 users on the social media platform. The flight was scheduled to depart for Abu Dhabi and was already taxiing when the alert was raised. Police said they were notified of the threat around 7.20pm and were able to identify Azim within an hour. The aircraft was recalled to Changi Airport Terminal 2, where Azim was arrested. No suspicious items were found on him, and he was determined to have no means to carry out any actual threat. In court, Azim was represented by a lawyer. Prosecutors indicated they would consider reducing the charge to one under the Protection from Harassment Act, which carries lighter penalties, but Azim did not enter a plea. His case is scheduled to return to court on July 3. If convicted of the original charge of communicating false information about a bomb threat, Azim faces up to seven years in jail, a fine of up to S$50,000 (RM211,534), or both.

Azim Shah Abubakar Shah, 22, allegedly said 'no one here knows I'm going to blow the plane up' in a post on Instagram stories after he boarded the Etihad Airways aircraft at about 6.55 pm on February 14, Channel News Asia said. He allegedly posted the threat on his Instagram account under the username 'fruitloops_19'. The story was viewable to 16 people, according to the charge sheet. The prosecution offered to reduce his charge to one under the Protection From Harassment Act for causing harassment, alarm or distress, however, he did not indicate a plea. He will appear in court on July 3, said the report. If convicted, Azim could be jailed for up to seven years, fined up to SGD 50,000 (USD 39,000), or both, according to the report.

According to court documents, the Singaporean was on board an Etihad Airways plane on Feb 14 when he allegedly posted the threat on his Instagram account under the username 'fruitloops_19'. He was said to have written 'no one knows that I'm gonna blow the plane up' in the post, which was viewed by 16 people. The police said they were alerted to the bomb hoax at 7.20pm. Officers from the Airport Police Division identified Azim within an hour of the post and confirmed that he was on board a flight bound for Abu Dhabi. The plane, which was already taxiing on the runway and about to take off, was recalled to Changi Airport Terminal 2, and Azim was arrested. It was discovered that he did not have any means to carry out his threat, as no threat items were found in his possession, the police said.
