Hoax bomb threat on Gulf Air flight to Kuwait
A hoax bomb threat caused a security scare on a Gulf Air flight before the plane eventually landed safely in Kuwait, authorities said on Sunday.
The man responsible for the hoax was arrested, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. It said he falsely claimed a bomb was on board while the plane, belonging to Bahrain 's flag carrier airline, was heading to Kuwait International Airport.
The alert was passed to Kuwait's interior ministry and triggered 'security procedures and protocols' at the airport, said directorate spokesman Abdullah Al Rajhi in a statement published by the Kuwait News Agency. He said all passengers were 'safe and sound' after landing at the airport.
Security checks confirmed there was no bomb on board flight GF213. The directorate said traffic at the airport was unaffected.
In a separate incident, a man was charged this week with making a bomb threat on his Instagram account while on board an Etihad flight earlier this year.
Azim Shah Abubakar Shah, 22, was charged by a court in Singapore on Thursday and faces a prison sentence of up to seven years, as well as a fine of up to $50,000. It is alleged he threatened to blow up the plane while travelling to Abu Dhabi in February.

Kuwait-bound Gulf Air plane receives bomb threat, lands safely at airport
Kuwaiti authorities received a report indicating that a Gulf Air plane, which was on its way to the country, had a bomb on board, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Sunday. In response, relevant protocols were immediately carried out as the Gulf Air plane with flight number GF213 landed safely at Kuwait International Airport, and all passengers were evacuated, the authority added. "All passengers are safe and in good health", said Abdullah Al Rajhi, DGCA's official spokesperson, as the report turned out to be a fake bomb threat. He added that scheduled flights at Kuwait International Airport were not affected and no adverse effects resulted from the incident, which took place on Sunday. He also said that the individual who reported that the plane had a bomb on board has been taken into custody, and security measures are being taken against them. In a similar incident, a 22-year-old man in Singapore allegedly made a bomb threat on an Abu Dhabi-bound flight and was charged on Thursday with seven years in prison and up to a $50,000 (Dh183,500) fine.

Kuwait reports massive 83% reduction in traffic violations
Traffic violations across Kuwait dropped by 83 percent more than a month after new rules were enforced, according to Ministry of Interior data. Last month, the number of traffic violations stood at 28,464, as compared to 168,208 registered in the same period a year earlier, the statistics show.
