A melodic ode to sawan
(L) Somya Goel (R) Smita Pandey As the showers of Sawan cast a green spell over the city, a group of ladies recently hosted a vibrant celebration of Hariyali Teej, immersing the attendees in the rich traditions of folk and classical Indian music and dance. Moving away from the B'wood inspired Teej, this Hariyali Teej was all about embracing the fading charm of traditional Sawan celebrations . (L-R) Satya, Suman and Neha (L) Nivedita Bhattacharya (R) Seema Singh and Poonam Singh (L) Geetha Ravi and N Ravindre (R) Sonia and Savita (L) Tuhin and Romee Banerjee (R) Vineeta Mishra The theme, Rimjhim Ke Geet Sawan Gaye, came alive through a unique antakshari session, where participants sang songs using Sawan-related words. Traditional folk melodies like Kaise Khelan Jai Ho Sawan Mein Kajariya and Badariya Ghir Aayi set the festive tone, while classical dance performances choreographed by Nivedita Bhattacharya paid graceful tribute to the Malhar raga. Adding a colourful flair, the dress code celebrated the traditional Bandhej pattern instead of the usual green. Women arrived in bandhej saris and lehengas, their hands adorned with mehendi and green bangles, fully enjoying the spirit of Sawan. — Amina Ashraf Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
