17 Maoist cadres, militia members from Chhattisgarh's strife- torn south Bastar region surrender before police in Telangana
As many as 17 Maoist cadres and militia members from the Dandakaranya forest region in neighbouring Chhattisgarh have returned to the mainstream by turning themselves in before the police in Kothagudem town on Friday, police said. Among them are two Area Committee Members (ACMs), four party members, and 11 militia members, all hailing from the restive south Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. According to police, 282 Maoists of various cadres mostly from the Maoist-affected Bijapur and Sukma districts of Chhattisgarh have surrendered before the Bhadradri Kothagudem district police so far this year. One of the main factors that prompted them to abjure the path of violence and return to the mainstream is the prompt implementation of welfare measures under the 'Operation Cheyutha' programme of the district police for rehabilitation of the surrendered Maoists, police said. Addressing the media in Kothagudem, Superintendent of Police B. Rohit Raju said, 'At present CPI (Maoist) cadres are moving in the forested stretch along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border.' 'Those residing in these border villages should desist from extending any cooperation to Maoists. They should alert the police if they notice any movement of the cadres of the outlawed organisation,' the SP added.

38 members of CPI (Maoist) from Chhattisgarh surrender before Kothagudem police
As security forces intensified anti-Maoist 'Operation Kagar' in neighbouring Chhattisgarh's south Bastar region, as many as 38 militia and front organisation members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) from the strife-torn Bijapur district surrendered before the police in Telangana's Kothagudem town on Friday. They hail from Ampuram, Gomuguda and Rasapalli villages under Pamed police station limits in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. They have voluntarily surrendered before Bhadrari Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohit Raju, impressed by the rehabilitation policy of Telangana government for the surrendered Maoists, the police said. Those who surrendered include two CPI (Maoist) members, 16 militia members, seven Village Committee Members (VCMs), six Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sanghatan (KAMS) members, three Chetana Natya Mandali (CNM) members and four Grama Rakshaka Dalams (GRDs) members. According to the police, a total of 265 CPI (Maoist) members working in various cadres in the banned organisation have surrendered before the Bhadradri Kothagudem district police so far this year.

14 Maoists surrender before police in Kothagudem
To lead a normal life by utilising the Telangana government's rehabilitation policy for surrendered Maoists, 14 Maoists of various cadres have quit the banned CPI (Maoist) and surrendered in Kothagudem, police said on Tuesday. As many as 13 of the surrendered Maoists hail from Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district and one from Charla mandal in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The rebels turned themselves in before Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohit Raju in the coal town. Among the Maoists who have surrendered are two Area Committee Members (ACMs), four party members, three Revolutionary People's Committee (RPC) militia members, four village committee members and one Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan (KAMS) member. One of the surrendered ACMs, Sodi Budra, 24, a native of Thurmel village in Bijapur district, was active in Maharashtra's south Gadchiroli, police added. According to the police, the sustained efforts of the district police as part of 'Operation Cheyutha' programme and the prompt disbursement of the rewards to the surrendered Maoists led to a spurt in surrender of Maoists.
