Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there.
The programme was organised by the Home Department.
Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation.
'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction.
The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said.
Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added.
Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs.
District Health Officer Mahesh Biradar, physician Veeresh Jaka, Senior Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department Suleman Nadaf, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology Purnima, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharat Kumar and Javeed Inamdar, Raju Bavihalli and others were present.
