Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there.
The programme was organised by the Home Department.
Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation.
'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction.
The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said.
Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added.
Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs.
District Health Officer Mahesh Biradar, physician Veeresh Jaka, Senior Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department Suleman Nadaf, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology Purnima, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharat Kumar and Javeed Inamdar, Raju Bavihalli and others were present.

Amarnath pilgrimage not to be allowed through railway, 60 RFID centres functional in 5 districts: Jammu DC
Jammu, June 27 (UNI) Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Friday said that Shri Amarnath Yatra will not be allowed through railways while 60 RFID centres are established at five prominent districts in the Jammu region. "Yatra will not be allowed through the railway. It will be allowed only via road under proper regulation by the administration and security forces,' the Divisional Commissioner here told reporters in a press conference. He was flanked by Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti and other senior officers from police and administration. Kumar informed that online registration with e-KYC from the website of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and from different Bank Branches across the nation has already been started by SASB, while the offline registration shall begin on 1 July, 2025 in Jammu. He said elaborate arrangements have been put in place in Bhagwati Nagar Yatra camp, where the Yatris will arrive a day before leaving in convoys for Baltal and Pahalgam Yatra base camps. 'A total of 141 lodgment centres have been established in Jammu Division with adequate civic amenities and security arrangements, while 52 langers and 60 RFID centres will function in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban Districts and five Registration centres with a token centre at Saraswati Dham are being made functional in Jammu,' he added. IGP Jammu also appealed to the people to adhere to the Dos and Don'ts and public advisories being issued by the Administration. The general public can avail live information pertaining to the holy Yatra from the dedicated Control Rooms which shall be made functional in coming days, he said. The duo briefed about the foolproof and elaborate arrangements made by the administration for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025. Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Inspector General of Police, held a meeting with prominent members of the civil society of Jammu to discuss the arrangements and seek their cooperation for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) starting on July 2 from Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The meeting was attended by senior officials from Civil and Police administration and representatives of religious organizations transporters, Taxi Union, Traders, Bazaar associations, hoteliers, Sabhas was briefed about the elaborate arrangements and preparations made by the administration for the annual pilgrimage. The civil society members gave their valuable insights and suggestions for a spiritually rich experience to the Yatris. At the outset, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the religious, spiritual, cultural and economic significance of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 and emphasized on the crucial role of all the stakeholders in ensuring a smooth and hassle free yatra experience to the pilgrims. The Divisional Commissioner informed the meeting that elaborate arrangements have been made at Bhagwati Nagar yatra camp for the comfortable stay of pilgrims. 'With adequate water, power supply, the Niwas has AC halls, Hangers for shade, community Langer, sanitation and modern washroom facilities. Similar arrangements have also been made at lodgment centres across the districts en-route the yatra right from Lakhanpur in Kathua to Lambar, Banihal in Ramban,' Kumar said. The Civil Society members assured full cooperation to the administration from their end to make the yatra successful and memorable for the local and non local pilgrims. Stress was laid on giving wide publicity to Tawi Arti being organized during the yatra period, besides nearby sites and Tourist places for the information of the pilgrims arriving from different parts of the nation and the world. The Divisional Commissioner said that the pilgrims will be given full information by the Tourism department at their help desks established at RFID centres in Jammu and Lakhanpur. The civil society members gave numerous suggestions to make the yatra pleasant and hassle free including enhanced arrangements in view of monsoon, regulation of fares of three wheelers and cabs, encroachment free public spaces, erecting banners with information about the tourist spots and uninterrupted power and water supply in areas with hotels where Yatris will stay. IGP Tuti, while interacting with the Civil Society members, informed them about the elaborate security arrangements made with additional deployment of paramilitary forces creating a multi-tier security grid. Emphasis was laid on adherence to the cutoff timings by the yatris and traveling only with the official yatra convoys. The IGP Jammu assured that local tourists will not be affected during the Yatra. Anantapur police hand over ₹3.3 crore worth lost mobiles to owners at recovery mela
The Anantapur police on Friday handed over a record 1,216 mobile phones worth ₹3.3 crore to their rightful owners at the mobiles recovery mela held at Police Parade Grounds. Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh highlighted the relentless efforts of the police teams in tracking and recovering stolen and lost property. Speaking to the media, the SP said that the latest recovery took the total number of mobile phones recovered and returned by Anantapur police to 12,594, with an estimated value of ₹24.11 crore. 'The recovery is made in 20 States. The recovered phones number includes 1,179 phones handed back to people from other States, and 2,795 to people from 18 other districts in Andhra Pradesh,' Mr. Jagadeesh said. The value of the mobile phones ranged between ₹499 to ₹1.5 lakh. Though the police traced several devices to other States, the cybercrime wing of the district police ensured speedy tracking and recovery by deploying the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) platform. The SP cautioned the public against buying second-hand mobiles and digital equipment from unknown sources, particularly at bus stands and railway stations. He said that the public while purchasing the mobiles should insist on bills and invoices and original packaging, as this would help avoid legal hassles. Amarnath Yatra: J&K DGP reviews security arrangements in Kathua
Jammu, June 27 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat today reviewed the security arrangements ahead of Shri Amarnath Yatra in Kathua district. This year's 38-day long Shri Amarnath Yatra is starting from July 3 and will conclude on August 9. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from Jammu on July 2 by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Bhagwati Nagar based Yatri Niwas. The DGP along with IGP Jammu Zone Bhimsen Tutti, DIG JKS Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG CRPF Avadhesh Pathak and other senior officers visited Reception Centre Lakhanpur for an on-ground review of the security and administrative arrangements in the run-up to Shri Amarnath Yatra. DGP Prabhat further interacted with all the nodal officers of the various security forces and civil departments which included DC Kathua Rakesh Minhas, SSP Kathua Shobhit Saksena, Atul Kumar Commandant IR-19, Manjit Kaur Principal PTS Kathua and other senior officers of the Army, CAPF and JKP.
