Collector instructs enhanced monitoring of urea usage
During a district-level coordination committee meeting held at her camp office in Ongole, Ansariya announced the formation of a multi-departmental committee comprising DSO, Industries, Labour, Excise, Pollution Control Board, DTC, Vigilance and Enforcement, Police, and Agriculture officials. The collector ordered comprehensive inspections in coordination with the civil supplies department, plywood/resin and paints/varnish manufacturing units, industries, and pollution control departments. She instructed continuous surveillance through Vigilance, Transport, and Police departments to prevent unauthorised transportation of subsidised urea to neighbouring states.
The officials explained to the collector that for the current Kharif season (April-August), the district requires 54468 metric tons of urea.
Currently, 30597 metric tons remain available after distributing 30565 metric tons from the 34051 metric tons supplied so far, they informed.

Punjab Police arrests Amritsar man with links to UK-based gangster
Chandigarh, Aug 21 (PTI) Punjab Police on Thursday said it has arrested a man from Amritsar with links to a UK-based gangster during a joint intelligence-led operation with central agencies. A hand grenade, along with a pistol, was seized from the accused, identified as Malkeet Singh, a resident of Pandori village, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. Preliminary investigations revealed that Singh has direct links with gangster Dharma Sandhu, who is a close associate of Harwinder Rinda, an operative of the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International. Rinda is based in Pakistan and backed by the country's spy agency – the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). 'In an intelligence-led operation with central agencies, Amritsar Rural Police apprehended Malkeet Singh, resident of Pandori village in Amritsar and recovered one hand grenade, one .30 Bore Pistol (Px5), and 10 live rounds of .30 bore ammunition. Haryana Human Rights Commission seeks report in an alleged bonded labour case, highlights failures in protective mechanisms
Seeking reports from the police and health department in a case pertaining to a minor allegedly held captive as a bonded labour and subjected to physical abuse, the Haryana Human Rights Commission has observed that the facts of the case indicate 'deprivation of basic human dignity' and a 'total breakdown' of the protective mechanisms that ought to shield children from such exploitation. Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report earlier this month, the three-member commission has sought a detained report, including the status of compensation, investigation and welfare measures, from the Deputy Commissioners of Jind and Nuh within eight weeks. The Superintendents of the Police of the two districts should conduct a detailed inquiry, including identification and apprehension of the accused, said the panel, directing the Nuh Child Protection Officer to prepare a rehabilitation plan, inclusive of psychological counselling, education and repatriation to his family. Headed by Justice Lalit Batra, the Commission observed that the failure of authorities to detect and prevent this incident raised serious questions about the adequacy of existing surveillance and rescue mechanisms, especially in vulnerable migration corridors. The victim, Santosh, 14, with his arm severed from the elbow and crudely bandaged, was walking along the road in Nuh on July 29 when two schoolteachers spotted him and took him to a police station. He was later shifted to the PGIMS Rohtak after a first-aid at a hospital in Nuh. The teenager later told the police that he was held captive at some place in Haryana as a bonded labourer and had severed his arm while feeding grass into a motorised chopper. After the accident, his employer had allegedly cut his arm, hanging from his hand, with a blade and abandoned him in the forest. Referring to the news report, the commission said: 'It is stated that the child, after being separated from his companions at Bahadurgarh Railway Station, was approached by an unknown individual who offered him work in a buffalo dairy in exchange for a monthly wage of ₹10,000. However, instead of lawful employment, the minor was allegedly subjected to continuous forced labour and physical abuse for two months'. 'Such treatment of a minor is a direct violation of international legal obligations, particularly under Article 32 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child,' the Commission observed, adding that The alleged acts also constitute prima facie contravention of various provisions of domestic law, including the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976 and Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986'. Such incidents amounted to gross violations of fundamental human rights enshrined under Articles 21 and 23 of the Constitution of India. guaranteeing the right to life with dignity and prohibiting trafficking and forced labour, the Commission observed, with Kuldeep Jain and Deep Bhatia being the two members on the panel.

A woman in Ghaziabad has filed a police complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of dowry harassment and mental and physical abuse. She also claimed she was pressured to maintain a physique like Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi. According to the complaint, the woman was married six months ago, with her family reportedly spending over Rs 76 lakh on the wedding. Despite this, she alleges that her husband, a physical education teacher in a government school, constantly body-shamed her, calling her 'fat and ugly,' and demanded she exercise for three hours daily. Failure to comply, she claimed, resulted in food deprivation. The woman further accused her in-laws of forcing her to take an abortion pill, leading to a miscarriage. She also alleged that her husband frequently watched inappropriate content online and was a habitual womaniser. Assistant Commissioner of Police Saloni Agarwal confirmed the registration of an FIR at the women's police station.
