Major EastEnders legend ‘set to return after 4 years'
Max Branning is set to make a dramatic return to EastEnders as Jake Wood reprises his iconic role after 4 years away The character, whose affair with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) in 2007 is regarded as one of the BBC One soap's biggest stories ever, was last seen in the Square in 2021 when Jake quit to pursue other projects. After almost two decades of living in Walford, Max decided it was time to leave as he joined daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and grandson Louie in New Zealand. Little did he know, however, at the time of his departure that Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) – who he had an affair with the previous year – was pregnant with his daughter Annie. With a daughter he didn't know existed coupled with the return of Lauren, who recently gave birth to his grandson baby Jimmy, there is certainly plenty of story material for Max upon his return. 'Jake's return is huge news for EastEnders fans as his character made a massive mark on the show,' a source told The Sun. 'It'll raise some eyebrows after he was absent from the 40th anniversary earlier this year. Bosses are excited about what his character's reappearance means for spicing up the plots. 'There is plenty to go at. Max has loads of unfinished business in the Square and is set to ruffle some feathers.' Metro has reached out to EastEnders for comment. Reports of Max's return come shortly after EastEnders boss Kate Oates teased a huge Walford comeback. 'If you like a return, I don't think you're going to be disappointed, because there's potentially one on the cards,' she said at the BAFTAS, following EastEnders winning the Best Continuing Drama award. She went on to add: 'There are some really big stories coming up, and if it's a return you're after, then you might be interested in what's on the horizon.' Jess Wright praises brother Mark and shares why she won't babysit his daughter
EXCLUSIVE: Former TOWIE star Jessica Wright spoke to the Mirror about her brother Mark Wright becoming a parent with Michelle Keegan whilst on the BAFTA red carpet Reality TV star Jessica Wright has opened up about her brother Mark Wright becoming a parent. Jess praised her younger sibling and teased why she isn't yet offering to babysit her newborn niece, Palma, for the presenter. Mark, 38, and his wife Michelle Keegan, 37, announced the birth of their "little girl" Palma, who is now two months old, in March. Jess, 39 - who is a parent herself to son Presley, two - later described the couple as "incredible parents". The Mirror caught up with Jess at the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises. She was among the guests on the red carpet at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London yesterday ahead of the TV awards ceremony. Asked what it's been like seeing her brother Mark take on his new role as a parent, Jess told us: "It's been amazing." The former the Only Way is Essex star went on to gush over him and her newborn niece Palma in our interview. Whilst talking about her sibling, she said on the red carpet: "He's taken to it like a duck to water. He's brilliant. He's amazing. He's really a great dad already." Jess shared that she wasn't surprised though, adding: "I had no doubt." Speaking about Mark's daughter, she said: "She's amazing! The best little girl." Jess - who has two nephews through her youngest brother Josh Wright, 35 - then added about the new arrival of the family: "I'm so happy I have a niece." When asked if she's offering to babysit Palma, Jess laughed. She then teased: "Not quite!" She went on to share that her son - who turns three later this month - keeps her busy enough. She said: "Presley keeps me on my toes enough." Her brother Mark previously teased that he enjoyed his "first night out" with his wife Michelle since Palma's arrival at Jess' Have A Heart Gala last month. Jess also spoke to us about the recent fundraising event on the BAFTAS red carpet. The gala was held at the Savoy on April 24 in support of the Brompton Fountain, which supports the care of seriously ill children. It was shared prior that Jess was collaborating with the charity to raise awareness and funds to provide support for children with severe heart and lung conditions. Jess previously announced that her own son, Presley, had been diagnosed with congenital heart disease, Bicuspid Aortic Valve. She shared the news last year and has since spoken about the condition, including having revealed that Presley will need open-heart surgery at some point. Reflecting on the gala, she told us on the weekend: "It was absolutely incredible. The build up to it was pretty intense but I'm so pleased we did it because we raised a quarter of a million pounds, which is pretty epic for a small charity like the Brompton Fountain - so [I'm] absolutely over the moon!" Asked what it means to be involved with an event like the Have A Heart Gala and raise so much money, given her personal connection to the cause, Jess shared her pride. She also expressed hope over its potential impact. She said: "I'm just really proud that I can use my platform to make some good out of some really awful, tragic stuff which is basically, essentially, open-heart surgery on children and other complications within the heart. So yeah, I'm just really, really happy that I can make a change, hopefully in a positive way with the platform that I have so gratefully been given."

EastEnders star returned 'sealed' amidst bombshell as bosses drop huge hint
EastEnders fans are convinced that one particular cast favourite will be making a return to Walford after Kate Oates teased a major comeback for a beloved character EastEnders fans reckon Max Branning is poised for an electrifying comeback to Albert Square, with perfect timing after his daughter Lauren just gave birth. The rumour mill went into overdrive after Kate Oates, the show's executive producer, hinted at a major return during a chat at the BAFTAS. In the reveal, Oates dropped hints, saying: "If you like a return, I don't think you're going to be disappointed, because there's potentially one on the cards... "There are some really big stories coming up and if it's a return you're after, then you might be interested in what's on the horizon." Fans have been dissecting every nugget of information, with many putting their bets on Max's well-timed return. While some chatter has included Ben Mitchell as a contender, not every fan is thrilled about another stint from him. Reddit users are particularly invested, with one user's guess getting plenty of nods: "Kate saying potentially seems like it's not 100% certain yet, but Max or Ben seem likely, Kate has always been a massive fan of Ben's." A second frustrated fan expressed: "I'm tired of Ben, please give us a Ben break. He comes back and then goes to prison, then just keeps doing it. Can't they do something else with his character? He comes back, 'dad doesn't love me', 'look dad I'm a hardened criminal like you', 'I'm gay btw', 'oh no I messed up'." While opinions on Ben's return are mixed, some viewers are more receptive to the idea of another well-known character making a comeback. One fan suggested a different direction: "I'd be open to Max, he does different stories at least," alluding to Max Branning's varied plotlines over the years on the show. Speculation is rife about which characters would make the most significant splash if they returned. A particular comment highlighted a few favourites: "I think Shirley, Max and Mick are the ones that would excite most." However, the prospect of Shirley Carter's return sparked debate due to her complicated history, particularly with Dean Wicks. One viewer questioned the potential storyline: "Shirley, I don't understand the story or how they explain the reconciliation with Dean,". Mick Carter was also mentioned, though not everyone seems eager for his reappearance. Another fan confessed their hesitation: "Mick, I still think is too early and believe the show is better without him." Max remains a popular choice among fans, especially considering his daughter Lauren (played by Jacqueline Jossa) and baby Annie currently feature in the show. A user pointed out the potential intrigue surrounding Max: "Max would be most interesting with Annie considered and also an Oscar Branning return, but think there's enough characters of that age. If it is the case then hope they find a way to make him no The most recent dark? ? Max we saw."

BBC Strictly fans emotional at Joe Sugg's reaction to Dianne winning BAFTA TV Award
Joe Sugg was bursting with pride when his partner Dianne Buswell won a BAFTA. The 2025 BAFTA TV Awards was quite emotional for many, with one particular moment catching viewers all off-guard. At the glittering awards show, Strictly Come Dancing took home the gong for most memorable moment. The accolade was given for Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland's 'blackout dance' from the 2024 series. Dianne was present on the night to pick up the award, which was determined by a public vote. Chris wasn't at the event but he did send a message to fans via his dance partner. The powerful routine had won over Strictly fans last year, featuring a segment where Chris covered Dianne's eyes as the stage went dark, symbolising Chris' experience of the world as a blind person. Speaking on stage, Dianne said: "In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability." "This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this," the professional dancer added, visibly moved, reports the Express. Dianne then went on to share Chris' message with Strictly fans: "Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is 'after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing'." Viewers tuning into the BAFTAs on Sunday (May 11), were quick to spot Dianne's partner Joe Sugg in the audience as the camera panned across the room to catch his reaction. As Joe watched his girlfriend on stage, the overwhelming emotions could be seen as a little tear trickled down his cheek, stirring a heartfelt response from viewers watching on at home. "Awwww did I spot a tear in Joe's eye? #BAFTAS #BAFTATVAwards," tweeted one fan after the scene, as another shared: "I've just absolutely wailed at that shot of Joe with tears in his eyes #BAFTATVAwards #BAFTAS." Not alone in their feelings, another viewer posted: "Joe crying whilst Dianne receives her award I'm not okay #BAFTAS," and someone else remarked: "Omg Joe sugg crying at Dianne accepting the award has fully got me #BAFTas." The ceremony also saw Danny Dyer receiving the accolade for Comedy Performance, Jessica Gunning celebrated as Best Supporting Actress and Ruth Jones honoured with Female Performance in a Comedy.
