BBC Strictly fans emotional at Joe Sugg's reaction to Dianne winning BAFTA TV Award
Joe Sugg was bursting with pride when his partner Dianne Buswell won a BAFTA.
The 2025 BAFTA TV Awards was quite emotional for many, with one particular moment catching viewers all off-guard. At the glittering awards show, Strictly Come Dancing took home the gong for most memorable moment. The accolade was given for Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland's 'blackout dance' from the 2024 series.
Dianne was present on the night to pick up the award, which was determined by a public vote. Chris wasn't at the event but he did send a message to fans via his dance partner. The powerful routine had won over Strictly fans last year, featuring a segment where Chris covered Dianne's eyes as the stage went dark, symbolising Chris' experience of the world as a blind person.
Speaking on stage, Dianne said: "In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability."
"This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this," the professional dancer added, visibly moved, reports the Express.
Dianne then went on to share Chris' message with Strictly fans: "Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is 'after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing'."
Viewers tuning into the BAFTAs on Sunday (May 11), were quick to spot Dianne's partner Joe Sugg in the audience as the camera panned across the room to catch his reaction.
As Joe watched his girlfriend on stage, the overwhelming emotions could be seen as a little tear trickled down his cheek, stirring a heartfelt response from viewers watching on at home.
"Awwww did I spot a tear in Joe's eye? #BAFTAS #BAFTATVAwards," tweeted one fan after the scene, as another shared: "I've just absolutely wailed at that shot of Joe with tears in his eyes #BAFTATVAwards #BAFTAS."
Not alone in their feelings, another viewer posted: "Joe crying whilst Dianne receives her award I'm not okay #BAFTAS," and someone else remarked: "Omg Joe sugg crying at Dianne accepting the award has fully got me #BAFTas."
The ceremony also saw Danny Dyer receiving the accolade for Comedy Performance, Jessica Gunning celebrated as Best Supporting Actress and Ruth Jones honoured with Female Performance in a Comedy.

Lead star Bonneville said of the new episodes: 'In series two we see the ripple effect of even more gold being smelted and even more money being laundered. 'Our principal characters return and we see the effect the gold is having on them and the impact the proceeds of the robbery has around the world. 'Because the money is spreading so far and wide it proves increasingly difficult for Boyce and his team to keep up, especially as their operation - already criticised for being the most expensive in police history - is facing pressure to scale back in the face of limited results. 'As far as his superiors are concerned, Boyce hasn't put enough of the bad guys behind bars.' The real-life Boyce faced pressure against the clock towards his retirement, but his superiors were also concerned about the escalating costs of the investigation versus the diminishing returns. Bonneville commented on how season two would show the 'consequences' and the 'extraordinary ripple effect' the stolen gold had not only through the British economy but around the world. The show depicts how the impact would be felt in Tenerife through to Tortola in the Caribbean with even the Russian mafia getting involved. He added: 'The implications are huge, and the consequences of the actions of six men in a van really do have a worldwide impact.' The drama recounts the 1983 Brink's-Mat robbery – an infamous heist where three tonnes of gold bullion was nabbed and much of it remains untraced, reports the Express. Each episode of season one opened with a disclaimer noting that certain "characters and elements" were "created or changed" to enhance the story, with something similar expected in season two. Addressing the mixing together of fact and fiction, the show's creator Neil Forsyth said: 'We do a huge amount of research with The Gold, but then we have to tell a cohesive version of a very complicated story, so of course creative licence is used for that and other reasons. But the series is very much inspired by real events.' Forsyth said of the character: 'He was already criminally minded, laundering money for a South American drug cartel in the Caribbean. As a result, his involvement creates a very complicated and very dangerous turn in the Brink's-Mat story.' Forsyth shared that despite wanting to incorporate more details from the actual robbery, the makers were limited by the constraints of television format. Together with researcher Thomas Turner, Forsyth has gone on to co-author a book elaborating on the Brink's-Mat robbery. The book delves into the finer points discovered during their research for the show which were ultimately deemed excessive for the televised storyline.
