BBC Bake Off's Prue Leith shares work incident 'so awful' she should have lost her career

BBC Bake Off's Prue Leith shares work incident 'so awful' she should have lost her career The beloved BBC presenter opened up about a huge mistake she made early in her career Dame Prue Leith has made a shocking admission about the early days of her career which she said should have ended her culinary dreams there and then. The Great British Bake Off star appeared on ITV's Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh on Sunday morning (April 27). The show also welcomed Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell and her partner, social media star Joe Sugg. ‌ Just minutes in to the episode, Prue dropped a bombshell about her past which left her fellow guests open-mouthed. Article continues below Host Alan asked Prue if she had ever experienced any "disasters" at work after highlighting guest Joe's now legendary appearance on Celebrity Bake Off in 2020 where he fainted after cutting his finger while chopping. A clip of the incident on Channel 4's YouTube account now has nearly two million views. Prue said the incident happened 'before health and safety' (Image: ITV ) Prue was quick to think of one work disaster that happened in the "days before health and safety", and took everyone by surprise with the shocking tale. ‌ "Do you know the very first disaster that I had as a caterer was so awful that I should have really given up catering," she began. "This was in the days before health and safety, I hasten to say." Continuing the anecdote, the 85-year-old shared: "My cat used to sit on the windowsill and watch me bake. If he got bored, he would jump right off. He never touched the counter, he would jump from the windowsill onto the floor. "One day a guy rang up and said 'Do you have an animal called [inaudible]?' I said 'Oh my God is he stuck on your roof?' because my cat was always getting stuck on other people's rooves." ‌ Dianne and Joe were stunned by Prue's admission (Image: ITV ) However, Prue's client didn't have evidence of the cat on his property, but actually in his food. In a shock admission, the presenter revealed the man had actually found a cat collar in his trifle. "I said 'Yes, that's my cat, is he stuck on your roof?' and he said 'No, no, his collar tag is stuck in my trifle." The revelation sparked groans of "Oh no" from Alan, Dianne and Joe, with Dianne covering her mouth in shock. Article continues below Prue continued: "Obviously he had been jumping off the windowsill and shed his collar tag." Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh airs Sundays from 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX
