Freddie Highmore on his character in 'The Assassin': 'It was fun to play this role but...'

Keeley also revealed, 'The scripts are brilliant. Everything we could possibly need was in there. And then, you know, meeting Freddie, establishing this lovely relationship that we have very, very quickly.' read more Keeley Hawes, Freddie Highmore's show The Assassin is set to premiere on August 1 on BBC Player India, available on Tata Play Binge and Prime Video. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the duo spoke about its prep for its respective characters. Freddie: Personality wise, I don't think you're, an assassin. Keelie: I don't think I am. Freddie: I think you transformed for this role but I don't know if that's politically threatened in your presence offset, which is probably a good thing. Even though you were very good at doing your stunt stuff. Whereas I just had to sort of jump around in a very inelegant way. I don't know. I feel like in some ways well, what appealed to me was doing the sort of British sensibility to the humor, that kind of understated fun that underlies a lot of the, like, heavier stuff in this show. And I'd worked for a long time in North America previously on a couple of shows that went for quite a while. And so it was fun to be able to do this, and I'm not sure whether it was playing myself, but it certainly was fun to indulge the kind of European and the and the British sense of humor. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Keeley: Freddie is hilarious. So it's really nice to see his comedy chops. He's very, very funny, very good at comedy. So it's lovely to see that. I suppose the great relief for me was that, Julie has been out of action and retired for quite some time. So, there were no expectations on me physically to be in any sort of, you know, shape for the sort of action. She's literally sat drunk, on a beach where she has been for several years. So, there was very little training that went into that. It's about reading the scripts. The scripts are brilliant. Everything we could possibly need was in there. And then, you know, meeting Freddie, establishing this lovely relationship that we have very, very quickly. You know, that that did a lot of the work for me. And then, you know, then it's sort of seeing, how the story progresses and, what you need to get ready for as the, what you need to prepare for as the different episodes come up with the the challenges that each one of those brings.
