Bobby Flay Reveals Which Chef 'Has Been Asking to Compete For Years' on One of His Shows
Bobby Flay Reveals Which Chef 'Has Been Asking to Compete For Years' on One of His Shows originally appeared on Parade. In a recent Instagram Q&A, spilled all kinds of behind-the-scenes tea about currently airing culinary competition show BBQ Brawl, including who is clamoring to be a mentor on the show. Over the years, BBQ Brawl has had many chefs as coaches/mentors on the show — Flay, Michael Symon, Eddie Jackson, Jet Tila, Sunny Anderson, Michael Voltaggio, , , and the late Anne Burrell. The judges since season two have been Chef Rodney Scott and Chef Brooke Williamson, plus TV personality Carson Kressley. But it turns out Williamson has been dying to compete on the asked by a fan, "Who else would you like to be a competitor coach?", Flay replied, "[Chef Brooke Williamson] has been asking to compete for years. Should we give her a chance??" Perhaps season 7 should be boyfriend vs. girlfriend since Flay and Williamson went public with their relationship earlier this year. The other secrets Flay spilled about BBQ Brawl include: Q: "How do you feel about your chances [this season]?"A: "My team is really talented this season. I think we will be tough to beat, but there are a handful of competitors on the other two teams that are very capable of winning. Should go down to the wire." Q: "What's the best way to get a crispy skin on non-battered chicken when grilling?"A: "Very low grill, skin side down and be patient. It could take close to 20 minutes slowly letting the fat render away. Then flip it over to finish cooking the meat."Q: "Have you ever used jackfruit as a meat substitute?"A: "Honestly, I haven't. It's really not my approach to cooking. I don't like meat 'substitutes.' If I want a vegetable- or starch-forward dish without meat, I make it about that vegetable as the focus." Q: "What has been the best part of being on this season of BBQ Brawl?"A: "I always love cooking with people I haven't cooked with before. I learn something every episode. Also, I love the playful trash talk with Maneet and Antonia. They're both really fun." Q: "Is that a real town or is it a set?"A: "It's an outdoor set outside of Austin, TX. They also do weddings and big events. It's called @starhillranch." Q: "Would you ever have a BBQ Brawl with regular home chefs?"A: "I believe BBQ Brawl is so popular because the people competing are so talented. The technique takeaway for the viewer is what brings people back to watch."Q: "What is the most difficult equipment to BBQ on?"A: "Smokers. There are so many variables. It takes a very experienced cook to nail it." Q: "Hamburger and hot dog buns should be lightly grilled, yay or nay?"A: "I always like a little toast on my buns. Love that contrast of texture." Q: "What's a good BBQ-themed name for a cat?"A: "Smokey….obviously." BBQ Brawl airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Bobby Flay Reveals Which Chef 'Has Been Asking to Compete For Years' on One of His Shows first appeared on Parade on Jul 7, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jul 7, 2025, where it first appeared.

This Handsome, Pro-Level Traeger Grill Is $230 Off
Hear that? It's the sound of sizzling kitchen deals from the early Amazon Prime Day sale section; specifically, the hiss and sputter of a sausage on this classic Traeger pellet grill, which is already 32 percent off in anticipation of the retail behemoth's annual sale. For the uninitiated, Amazon Prime Day proper is July 8–11 this year, and will be overflowing with thousands of deals on everything from vacuums to tech gadgets to cookware and appliances. Amongst the welcome brouhaha of savings, your steadfast Eater commerce writers (hi!) has been sifting out the very best kitchen finds before, during, and after the big shopping bonanza. Given that grilling season is upon us, as evidenced by Henry Cavill's peak himbo-maxxing grill posts on Instagram, it's only fitting to kick off the event with a good 'ol Traeger grill. Traeger's pellet grills are beloved by grill aficionados for their ease of use, nostalgic silhouette, and ability to deliver wood-fired taste. The US company actually pioneered contemporary pellet grilling when it debuted its grills in the 1980s, and held a patent for decades on its signature wood pellet technology, which requires less maintenance than, say, tending the coals of a charcoal grill. Take this electric pellet grill, for example, which has a six-in-one design capable of grilling, smoking, roasting, braising, baking, and barbecuing at a max temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit. It can roast a veritable herd, accommodating up to eight chickens, seven racks of ribs, or a truly whopping 40 burgers. Normally, this workhorse would cost upwards of $730, but Amazon has let $230 fall off the price tag like the meat on the bone of those Korean sticky ribs at Hometown barbecue. So, for the grilling experts and novices alike, I say: Add to cart to make your own BBQ Brawl fantasies come true this summer. Save $230 and check out the Traeger grill sale on Amazon, and stay tuned for more early Amazon Prime Day deals . See More: Add to Cart Buy This Thing Eater at Home Shopping and Pantry Guides

'BBQ Brawl''s Season 6 Has a New Twist — Why Bobby Flay Likes the Change (Exclusive)
The sixth season of BBQ Brawl premiered on Food Network on Sunday, June 1 Flay tells PEOPLE new captains Maneet Chauhan and Antonia Lofaso give the show "renewed energy" Season 6 also features a new rule in which the winner of the first challenge gets to pick their captainBBQ Brawl's sixth season premiered earlier this week with a new twist: The winner of the first challenge gets to pick their captain. Bobby Flay, who faces off with fellow captains Maneet Chauhan and Antonia Lofaso, says the shakeup from previous seasons, in which captains picked their entire teams, changes the dynamic — in a good way. 'We always want to be that person because everybody has an ego,' Flay tells PEOPLE. 'And so it kind of got turned around on us for a second, which I actually liked.' The first episode, which aired Sunday, June 1, saw chef Aarthi Sampath choose to be on Lofaso's team. Flay says the new season has 'serious renewed energy,' thanks to the addition of Lofaso and Chauhan. 'When I asked them to do this, they prepared themselves so incredibly well for so long prior to shooting this,' he recalls. 'I mean, they did tons of research. They were practicing, cooking, all this sort of live-fire cooking, and they really brought their own sort of energy and attitude and obviously flavors to it. And I will say that they kept me on my toes the entire time.' The culinary star adds that Lofaso is 'all about impactful flavors.' 'She's so intense in her mentoring in the best way,' he explains. 'She's very dedicated to her team. She wants them to do really well. She's almost kind of like a proud mom to them.' Chauhan, he observes, is 'a master with Indian flavors and ingredients.' 'It was really interesting watching those ingredients come to life in this sort of very classic American function of barbecue,' he notes. The new season, set at Star Hill Ranch in Austin, Texas, sees 12 new brawlers face off in teams led by Flay, Chauhan and Lofaso, aiming to win over returning judges Carson Kressley, Brooke Williamson (whom Flay began dating earlier this year) and Rodney Scott. Flay says the series' contestants tend to be 'students of the show.' 'They pay very close attention,' he says. 'Obviously, I've been on every season, so they kind of know what I like and what I don't like, what my style's going to be, how I'm going to mentor them, and those kinds of things.' 'They don't know who the other two mentors are going to be until they get there, but I think that every season, they seem to be better,' he continues. 'And I think it's not that everybody's better than the prior seasons, but they're just more schooled. So they know, they kind of drill down on what they need to do to win.' When it comes to fan reactions to the long-running series, which premiered in 2019, Flay says 'everybody has an opinion' on barbecue. 'And so we get a lot of feedback of, 'I wouldn't have done it that way and my grandfather would've never thought that was good.' And then people are like, 'I can't believe I have all these new ideas about barbecue. I never thought about it that way.' So it kind of goes both ways. But the one thing about it is people are watching it and they're interested in it and I love when people have opinions about stuff. I think if it was all just good or all just not good, there's no reason to watch. But when there's a conversation about it, which there is tons of conversation about BBQ Brawl, it works.' Bobby Flay Says Girlfriend Brooke Williamson Is a Good Match
Celebrity chef Bobby Flay didn't hold back when asked about his new girlfriend Brooke Williamson. Based on Flay's most recent comments, the romance is going very strong. Both Flay and Williamson are starring on the show BBQ Brawl. They started out as professional friends before the relationship turned romantic. 'Well, first of all, I've been friends with Brooke forever,' he told People on June 4. 'I mean, she and I have been friends for a long time and so we shot this show before we started actually officially dating. So it has always kind of been the same for me.' Both Flay and Williamson are divorced with kids, and that has bonded them, he told People, saying, 'I love working with Brooke. We have a lot in common. We're very lucky. We're both chefs. We both have kids. We're both parents.' They've starred in other shows together but have only let the public know about their relationship since March. 'We are both in the restaurant business,' he told People. 'We have tons to talk about in terms of the things that we love to do besides just go and have dinner every once in a while. So it's been really great. And one of the things I really like about being in a relationship with Brooke is that she's great to bounce things off of. Like we ask each other's opinion about things that we're doing food wise or restaurant wise or business wise, all the time. So it's really nice to have kind of a best friend that you're dating that can also be helpful answering the questions that you have.' Flay has gushed about Williamson before. On his Instagram story on May 15, 2025, a fan asked Flay, 'If you had to compete as a team, who would you choose as your teammate?' He responded, according to People, 'I'll take @chefbrookew. I know our food would get an upgrade in terms of presentation. She makes delicious food, but it's always pretty too (like her).'Bobby Flay Says Girlfriend Brooke Williamson Is a Good Match first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 7, 2025
