Burger King Announces Major Menu Change

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Burger King has rolled out a suite of new beverage options, the company confirmed to Newsweek on Friday. As part of the new menu lineup, the fast-food giant introduced four Iced Coffee Cold Foam options and two Real Juice Lemonades. Why It Matters The product launches highlight Burger King's ongoing efforts to diversify its drink menu and respond more directly to consumer preferences. The expansion comes as the fast-food market sees increased competition over beverage offerings, with chains like Starbucks and McDonald's driving innovations in coffee and refreshments. LOIC VENANCE/AFP via Getty Images What To Know Burger King is now selling four Iced Coffee Cold Foam options—Vanilla, Mocha, Plain and Black—with the plain variety limited to select locations. The chain has also launched two Real Juice Lemonades: Strawberry Lemonade, made with real fruit juice, and Mango Peach Lemonade, a blend of lemonade with peach and mango juices. Prices for these new beverages are set at a recommended $2.49 for a small, $2.79 for a medium and $3.29 for a large, but actual prices may vary by location. These drinks have become available nationwide, according to a Burger King spokesperson. "The new Strawberry Lemonade is made with real fruit juice for a delicious and refreshing beverage and the Mango Peach Lemonade is a vibrant blend of lemonade with real peach and mango juice," the spokesperson told Newsweek. The drink menu additions follow Burger King's recent debut of the BBQ Brisket Whopper, described as the first menu item created through its "Whopper by You" platform. The new program allows customers nationwide to submit their ideas for new Whopper sandwiches on the chain's official website. The BBQ Brisket Whopper includes slow-cooked brisket, crispy onions, American cheese, sweet barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato, creamy mayo and a flame-grilled quarter-pound patty, and will also be offered as a Whopper Jr. The new menu item will be available for a limited time at participating U.S. locations. What People Are Saying Kevin Thompson, CEO of 9i Capital Group and host of the 9innings podcast, told Newsweek: "Burger King launched these new drinks to gain a portion of the market share that has exploded over the past few years. The want to target those incremental Starbucks, Dutch Brothers and McDonald's beverage drinkers." Alex Beene, financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek: "Burger King is the latest to offer new menu options in the form of coffee cold foams and lemonades in the hopes of luring back customers. Over the last two years, as inflationary pressures have weighed heavily on consumers, many have favored staying at home and cooking over dining out, and the result has been declining revenues and profits for many fast food chains." What Happens Next The company has launched these new menu items as part of a broader strategy to drive customer engagement and refresh its core offerings in the U.S. marketplace. "Like other restaurants, Burger King is introducing new items in an attempt to draw in customers who haven't frequented their locations as much as prices increased," Beene added.

Burger King Launching New Whopper Based On Customer Requests

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Burger King announced the debut of its BBQ Brisket Whopper, the first menu item created through its newly launched "Whopper by You" platform. The platform, which will be available to customers across the United States starting next Tuesday, will allow guests to submit ideas for new Whopper sandwiches, directly influencing menu innovations. The BBQ Brisket Whopper—featuring slow-cooked BBQ brisket, crispy onions, American cheese, sweet and golden BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato, creamy mayo, and a flame-grilled quarter-pound beef patty—arrives as a response to customer requests and is also available in a Whopper Jr. version. Why It Matters The introduction of the "Whopper by You" platform marks a shift in how Burger King incorporates customer feedback into its core menu development. This new initiative builds on previous engagement strategies, such as the 'Million Dollar Whopper' competition, giving consumers a more active role in menu innovation. In Japan, the fast food chain added a new localized item—the Spicy Whopper, featuring chili bean paste—to its menu on July 8. During the fast-food chain's first quarter earnings call this year, CEO Josh Kobza stressed Burger King's international growth. "We're in around 200 brand country combinations, and our top 10 markets are about 60% of our international system-wide sales. So a lot of different dynamics in each of those countries," Kobza said. "I think when you look at the Burger King brand in international, it's a bit different. It has some really great qualities that position it to grow so well. We've got a strong brand positioning. We've got modern restaurants in almost all of our markets. We have a lot more digital business as well." Moving forward, Kobza has said that Burger King's food will help streamline its global growth. "We have pretty great brand perception and really good food quality perception in those markets, where we balance some of our favorites like the Whopper with strong localization that each of our teams bring," Kobza said. Newsweek reached out to Burger King for comment via email. What People Are Saying Joel Yashinsky, Chief Marketing Officer at Burger King US&C, said in a statement: "As the brand known for 'Have It Your Way®,' we want to continue letting our Guests tell us what they want – and when it comes to our iconic Whopper sandwich, they have a lot of ideas. What Happens Next The new BBQ Brisket Whopper and "Whopper By You" program launch next week. Burger King is also set to bring back its summer favorite, the Frozen Cotton Candy Cloud.

Burger King's Next Whopper Could Be Your Idea

Burger King is launching a BBQ Brisket Whopper and has a second customer-suggested take on the sandwich planned, the company said. The burger chain wants customers to suggest other iterations for its Whopper. Crowd-sourcing is having a moment in dining, with McDonald's and Arby's also changing their menus in response to consumer seem to have more cred with fast-food chains these days. Burger King will start serving customer-suggested remakes of the Whopper—beginning with a BBQ brisket version—on July 15, the company said Wednesday. The chain, owned by Restaurant Brands International (QSR), plans to keep the collaborations coming, launching a 'Whopper By You' platform through which customers can suggest new iterations of the sandwich that may make it on to the menu. Multiple diners urged Burger King to bring back a smoky BBQ flavor, which inspired the BBQ Brisket Whopper, spokeswoman Chelsea Buda said in an email. The next 'Whopper by You' sandwich is already lined up, she said, and additional suggestions will be welcome at "We want to continue letting our Guests tell us what they want,' Joel Yashinsky, chief marketing officer of Burger King U.S. and Canada, said in a statement. Fast-food chains have sought to bring back inflation-weary diners, largely by offering value meals and other price promotions. But dining operations are also in a crowd-sourcing phase: McDonald's (MCD), for example, credited consumer demand for the return of the Snack Wrap, a chicken strip wrapped in a tortilla with lettuce and cheese. 'Fans never gave up on the Snack Wrap, inspiring the ultimate comeback,' the company said last month. In the pizza world, Papa John's (PZZA) executives acknowledged a drumbeat of demand for a stuffed-crust pie when it launched them in March. And Arby's in February said that it would permanently bring back Potato Cakes, citing its customers' "excitement" and "disappointment" at their past comings and goings and inviting fans to sign on to a "pre-class action lawsuit"—under which Arby's agrees to distribute $1 million in food to signees—if it discontinues the hashbrown-esque wedges before the end of 2026. 'We listened to their pleas on social media, and we aren't going to let Arby's get away with removing Potato Cakes from the menu again,' Jeff Baker, chief marketing officer at Arby's, said in a statement.
