BCCI reveals Rishabh Pant's fate for India vs England 5th Test after hard-fought draw in Manchester keeps series alive

A stellar batting effort from India in the second innings in Manchester – which earned them a draw in the fourth Test – may have prevented the necessity for Rishabh Pant to brave his fractured toe, but the Indian wicketkeeper-batter will not be part of the side for the Oval Test. Manchester: India's Rishabh Pant returns to pavilion after his dismissal by England's Jofra Archer on day two of the fourth Test(PTI) The BCCI confirmed Pant has been ruled out with the injury he sustained while batting in the first innings, when he was hit on the toe by a delivery from Chris Woakes. Pant sustained a fracture to his right foot during the drawn fourth Test, and scans later confirmed the damage, forcing the management to sideline him for the Oval clash beginning July 31. The board announced Pant's absence through an official release after India's draw in Manchester. The statement said the BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor Pant's recovery, while extending best wishes to the player for a swift return to action. Pant had played a key role throughout the opening three Tests, and fought immense pain on his toe to smash a gritty half-century in the first innings at Old Trafford. N Jagadeesan replaces Pant In Pant's absence, the Men's Selection Committee has named Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement for the final Test. While Jagadeesan is uncapped in the format, he has been part of India's wider red-ball setup over the past year and impressed in domestic cricket. It is expected that Dhruv Jurel will replace Pant in the playing XI in the final Test starting Thursday, as India aim to level the series. Jurel also kept the wickets in Pant's absence behind the stumps throughout the third and fourth Test; the latter suffered from a finger injury in the third match at Lord's. Earlier, India's fight in the Manchester Test was led first by KL Rahul (90) and Shubman Gill (103), before the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar battled conditions and England's renewed hopes to not only clinch a draw, but also smash their centuries in the second innings.

Swashbuckling India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was on Sunday ruled out of the fifth and final Test at the Oval due to the injury he suffered in Manchester earlier in the week. 'Rishabh Pant ruled out of fifth Test due to injury; N Jagadeesan named replacement,' the BCCI said in an X post on Sunday. All The Details 🔽 #TeamIndia | #ENGvIND — BCCI (@BCCI) July 27, 2025 Pant fractured his toe while attempting a reverse sweep on Day 1, which led to him having to retire hurt. He then remarkably continued his innings while batting almost on one foot and scored 54 in 75 balls. Pant was advised six weeks of rest and was expected to not travel to the ground on Day 2. However, he was eventually spotted in the dressing room in full gear and he then hobbled out after Shardul Thakur was dismissed shortly before Lunch. On Day 5, the keeper wasn't required to bat due to Jadeja and Sundar's gritty knocks which ended the 4th Test in a stalemate. Jadeja, Sundar and Shubman Gill struck fine hundreds as India secured the morale-boosting draw. The stalemate was achieved after Gill (103), Rahul (90), Jadeja (107 not out), and Washington (101 not out) fired with the bat on a fifth day pitch after India started their second innings 311 runs in arrears. England lead the series 2-1 heading into the fifth and final Test. For skipper Gill, this was his fourth century of the ongoing rubber as he became the first Asian batter to cross 700 runs in a Test series in England. Earlier in the day, opener Rahul was dismissed by Ben Stokes for a doughty 90, ending a 188-run partnership for the third wicket with Gill. Resuming the day on 174 for two and with a deficit of 137 runs, overnight batter Gill completed his hundred before falling to Jofra Archer just before lunch at Old Trafford.

Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of 5th Test Against England Due To Injury, To Be Replaced By...

Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the fifth Test encounter against England due to injury. BCCI announced on Sunday that Pant will not be playing the final match of the Test series at The Oval. Pant suffered a fractured toe during the fourth Test match after getting hit by a ball from Chris Woakes. Although Pant did bat even after the injury, he did not keep wickets and Dhruv Jurel was his substitute. Pant will be replaced by N Jagadeesan in the Indian cricket team squad. "Rishabh Pant, who sustained a fracture to his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the series," the BCCI said in a press release. The 27-year-old Pant retired hurt on 37 on the opening day of the Test in Manchester and went for scans after taking a blow to his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes. He, however, returned to bat after the fall of Shardul Thakur's wicket with India at 314/6 and went on to score an audacious fifty. "The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress and the team wishes him a speedy recovery," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in the release. Head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Pant after India played out a draw in the fourth Test. 'Rishabh Pant is out of the series. Any amount of praise is not enough for him, to bat with a broken foot. Not many people have done that in the past. That is why generations should talk about it, and future generations should also talk about it. It's unfortunate because of the kind of form he was in. I hope he recovers and comes back quickly. He is a very important member of the Test side,' said Gambhir in the post-game conference. India's updated squad for fifth Test: Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK).
