Bengaluru: Benglauru Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Friday announced the launch of BCPChat—a dedicated messaging application designed to support secure, efficient, and structured communication for the internal use of the city police. He said the app has been developed exclusively for Bengaluru City Police's internal use. 'The app enables seamless exchange of critical updates such as VIP movements, media reports, DCRs (Daily Crime Reports), and DSRs (Daily Situation Reports). With data securely stored in the Karnataka State Data Centre and access restricted to authorised personnel, BCPChat ensures confidentiality,' Dayananda said during a press conference here. The app also offers intelligent search capabilities for retrieving past records and streamlines the dissemination of official orders and circulars, he added. 'The platform facilitates the distribution of official documents such as government orders, circulars, and notices to all officers or designated personnel as required. Exclusively accessible to authorised police officers, BCPChat features an efficient search module, enabling instant access to historical documents and communication,' he said.

In a move to enhance internal communication, the Bengaluru City Police have developed and deployed their own messaging application, tailored exclusively for use by police officers across the city. The app, reportedly being referred internally as BCPChat, has been in development for the past three to four months and has been in active use for the last 15 Commissioner of Police B Dayananda officially announced the launch of the app to officials, the app replicates the core functions of common messaging platforms — such as sending individual and group messages, sharing audio, video, images, and document files including PDFs — but is specifically customised for police operations. It is described as clutter-free and designed with strict security protocols in place. One of its standout features is a broadcast function, which allows the department to send messages of general interest to all officers at once. This is intended to support faster and more efficient dissemination of updates and app also includes a built-in search engine, enabling users to retrieve previous messages, documents, and other stored information. Importantly, all communication is stored on servers hosted at the Karnataka State Data Centre, rather than on individual devices. This ensures data security and allows for easy retrieval of historical app is being used for day-to-day updates such as VIP movements, media briefings, Daily Crime Reports (DCRs), Daily Situation Reports (DSRs), and official communication including government orders and circulars.'We already started using it. It is in the process of improvement, but we have started using it for the last 15 days, and the development has been going on for the past 3 to 4 months,' an official in the police department said.

Dayananda said the messaging application was 'tailored to support secure, efficient and structured communication within the department', its access was controlled to only authorised police officers and ensured robust data protection as all data will be stored at the Karnataka State Data Centre. The app is built to ensure a structured sharing of information, including VIP locations and movements, daily crime reports, daily situation reports, and media coverage, among others. The application also facilitates the sharing of all government orders, like notices, circulars and guidelines, to all officers as and when required. The app also features an efficient search module enabling a quick search and access to archives, documents pertaining to criminals, cases, etc.
