Bahrain: Expat Engineer Awarded BD9,000 In Labour Dispute
An expat engineer has been awarded more than BD9,000 after the Labour High Court ruled a construction firm failed to pay what he was owed when his nine-year stint came to an end.
The ruling covers unpaid wages for his final month, money in lieu of untaken leave, an end-of-service payment, return ticket costs, and a certificate of employment. The court also ordered interest to be paid, along with legal costs.
The engineer, represented by lawyer Ahmed Mayouf, joined the company in 2015 on a monthly wage of BD1,200.
His contract ended in 2024. When the company refused to pay him, he took legal action.
He asked the court for his last month's wages, a penalty for the delay, his endof-service dues, payment for unused leave, a return ticket, and a formal certificate confirming the end of employment.
The company claimed his salary had been BD950 and insisted everything had already been settled. But the court found that the employment contract and work permit showed a total wage of BD1,200.
