Crafty stingray outmaneuvers hammerhead shark during ‘high-speed chase' off Australia
An Australia-based fisherman has captured extraordinary footage showing a large ray trying to outrun a hammerhead shark in the shallows. 'Just another day in Cape York,' Brody Sutton stated via Instagram. ALSO: Fisherman hardly speechless during rare encounter with orcas off Hawaii (video) The footage, posted below, shows both creatures speeding over the flats and the ray leaping to escape the jaws of the shark. The ray then uses Sutton's boat to assist in its seemingly successful survival effort. (The footage contains brief profanity.) The footage has been widely shared via social media. BDOutdoors described the footage as 'insane' and added: 'High-speed chase in the shallows. What a juke by this ray!' The Cape York Peninsula is in Far North Queensland.

Mako shark shown savagely attacking sea lion, anglers rejoice
Mako shark shown savagely attacking sea lion, anglers rejoice A fishing-themed Instagram page on Thursday shared graphic footage showing a large mako shark savagely attacking a sea lion off Southern California. (Footage is posted below.) There was no doubt about the outcome, which had many fishermen cheering. 'Thank you Mr. Mako! We love you!' reads one of the top comments beneath the BD Outdoors post. BD Outdoors, borrowing footage originally shared by NDMK Fish House on Santa Catalina Island, stated: 'Insane video of this massive shark chowing down on a bull sea lion off Catalina. What goes around comes around… win for the yellowtail fleet.' The comments and reference to the yellowtail fleet underscore the hatred Southern California anglers often express toward sea lions, which can seem omnipresent at the fishing grounds. Sea lions are notorious for stealing hooked fish, and anglers are often left with only fish heads. Keith Poe, a renowned Southern California fisherman who tags sharks for scientific research, identified the shark as a mako. He said the footage was captured near Seal Rocks at Catalina's east end. Another top comment: 'We've all wanted to see this happen!' Another follower expressed his gratitude, explaining that sea lions have cost him several possible jackpot wins on fishing boats, by taking all or part of his catches. Of course not everybody would be rooting for the shark. The Seal Rocks area is commonly visited by tour boats with passengers hoping to view seals and sea lions.

Watch as fisherman hooks ‘whole food chain' (including shark) with one cast
Watch as fisherman hooks 'whole food chain' (including shark) with one cast Footage has surfaced showing an Australia-based shore fisherman hooking a small fish, which was subsequently attacked by a larger fish, and ultimately by a much larger shark. 'This guy just caught the whole food chain!' BD Outdoors boasted Wednesday via Instagram. The footage, attributed to Briggsy Fishing, shows the excitement build after each hookup. The second hookup involved a prized giant trevally, or a GT. In the footage, it looks as though the GT had let go of the smaller fish before it was attacked by the shark as it was reeled over the rocks. It was not clear if the angler landed the shark. Briggsy Fishing, which posted the clip last month under the title, 'Very psycho,' did not respond to an inquiry abut the precise chain of events.
