This side-splitting Shakespeare parody is coming to Dubai this May
Shakespeare, but with a hilarious twist… For most of you, just thinking of William Shakespeare may bring back haunting memories of you back in school trying to memorise his most popular sonnet for an exam. While your English teacher's (possibly extreme) lesson plan may have put you off Shakespeare's literary works of art, there is no denying that he is one of the greatest writers in the English language. To help make you fall back in love with his works, consider checking out this performance titled The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare – the Abridged Version. But it's not what you think it's going to be, nor will it take up an entire day. This play has been performed in Dubai before, and it is back by popular demand for a limited time only. It will take place at the Zabeel Theatre – Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. So what can you expect? Expect to witness all of Shakespeare's plays (37 of them) with hilarious and comedic twists, guaranteed to have you laughing non-stop. This play delivers Shakespeare's work with a hilarious twist. For the theatre fans… Losing track of all the upcoming performances in the UAE taking place in 2025? We've got your back with a handy guide to what's taking place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While the lists are predominantly centred around shows for music fans, there are some unmissable shows for fans of musicals. The musical tells the story of a daughter who is on the hunt to find her dad before her wedding. The only sticky situation is that it could be one of three possible men. Well, you might have said his name three times because this November, you can catch the hilarious ghost live on stage in the capital. Yep! BEETLEJUICE The Musical is coming to the capital. It will take place from Thursday, November 20 to 30, 2025. BEETLEJUICE tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager dealing with grief from the loss of her mother and a neglectful father. They've moved into a house that is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a degenerate demon with a thing for stripes. But thankfully, Lydia has a thing for 'all-things-dead,' and she calls on the ghosts to help scare away her father and stepmother. Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan, which involves exorcism, an adorable girl scout who gets scared out of her wits, and a whole (nether)world of pandemonium. Register here. Grease the Musical follows 'good girl' Sandy and cool but 'bad-boy' greaser Danny. They had a secret romance but broke it off as they didn't live close to each other. This all changes as their paths cross once again. But Danny needs to keep up his image, and peer pressure is keeping them apart. Can Danny still keep Sandy in his life, or will it all fall apart? It's a musical that's essentially a love letter to this great city that we live in. It is born and bred right here in Dubai, conceptualised by Dubai-based French music producer Stéphane Boukris. The homegrown musical will celebrate the ever-giving energy of Dubai, its power to make and make better and build people up who come here from all walks of life to discover themselves, chart something of their lives, and their careers. It will blend stellar music and storytelling with the nuances of Dubai life to paint the picture we all know and love. Set in the heart of Dubai, the show tells the story of Will, a young artist who moves from London to Dubai to reunite with his partner, Sophia, and pursue his dream of producing a musical extravaganza. The narrative weaves together themes of love, ambition, and the vibrant culture of Dubai, promising an unforgettable journey for audiences. Is Grease The Musical coming to Dubai Opera?
We got chills, they're multiplying… We love a guessing game here at What's On HQ. So when Dubai Opera posted a little video on their official social media account with the words 'An Iconic Musical – Announcing Soon' we had to get in on the guessing action. Now, we don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but by the looks of the neon-coloured dancing man and lady, it could only mean one thing: Grease The Musical is coming to Dubai. Dubai Opera paired the video with a caption: 'Slicked hair, rebel hearts – the soundtrack to your endless summer nights.' Now, if you have seen the movie, there's one thing the actors/characters went through tubs of… Grease (for their hair, that is)… which ticks the Slicked hair part of that caption. As for 'Rebel Hearts', the very essence of the movie (and musical) is about teenage rebellion. If you haven't seen Grease before, read on as we will give you a little insight. Experience the magic of Harry Potter with a live orchestra this September
Calling all wizards, witches, and muggles… If you want to experience the magical world of Harry Potter once again and in a different light, snap up tickets to see the Harry Potter Film Concert Series in Abu Dhabi. As the show suggests, the audience will be able to watch Harry Potter on the big screen, but it will be accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra performing live. The film itself will be showcased on a 40-foot screen. See, we told you. You will experience the movie in a whole different light, better than any surround system you may have at home. The Harry Potter concert takes place on September 6 and 7, 2025 at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Every melodious note and tune from these movies will be played by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, really bringing the magic of these movies to life. Just imagine hearing the iconic score live as we watch as Harry and crew see Hogwarts Castle for the very first time or seeing or hearing Hedwig once again, backed by his theme song. Wow… (Personally, we'd struggle to hold back tears at a few of these particular scenes.) Other tunes you will hear include the Escape from the Dursleys, Gilderoy Lockhart (remember him…) accompanying tune, and the hilarious tune that backs the Snape vs Lockhart duel. Say his name three times… Abu Dhabi has been on a roll lately, bringing in musical fans from across the city and the country with its lineup. We've heard the people sing with Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular just this month, and we will continue to sing some of the greatest tunes of all time when Mamma Mia! comes dancing into town in June 2025. And now, the popular indoor arena on Yas Island, Etihad Arena, has just confirmed that BEETLEJUICE The Musical is coming to town.
