People Can't Get Over the Way Tom Cruise Eats Popcorn: ‘His Best Stunt'
Even after decades in the public eye, Tom Cruise still finds ways to surprise us. This May, the a-lister has been on a worldwide press tour for 'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.' It's the eighth and final movie in a franchise that has seen Cruise do his own stunts like hanging from the ceiling on a wire, scaling the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and riding a motorcycle straight off of a cliff into a gorge. This latest film promises more wild stunts from the 62-year-old action star, including more hanging — this time from a plane — but it's a much less harrowing physical feat of his that's garnering attention ahead of its release: the way he eats popcorn. A short clip posted by X user @seifwtf shows Cruise in a movie theater in England, listening to a speaker announce he's receiving a BFI Fellowship while enjoying a couple of handfuls of popcorn. He is eating it in a way that can only be described as 'movie star who's fully aware he is always being photographed.' Cruise shakes handfuls of buttery popcorn like dice and tosses them into his mouth like a cartoon character or high-powered attorney might, spilling some kernels on the floor. It's as entertaining as 'Top Gun.' And many folks on social media agree: 'He doesn't even look like he's eating it… (it) looks like he's acting like he's eating it.' 'I've never seen another human being eat popcorn like Tom Cruise.' 'When I forget how to eat in front of my crush.' 'This is going to haunt me it's so?? Menacing??? For no reason????' 'He's eating air.' 'my dad eats his trail mix like this.' 'Even the way he eats popcorn is intense.' 'That popcorn technique is on par with the biplane sequence for his best stunt.' Elsewhere on the tour, folks shared their popcorn-related Cruise stories. One X user shared a candid photo of Cruise speaking to movie theater staff in New York City while holding a big bucket of golden goodness. 'Tom Cruise has been talking to the employees at AMC Lincoln Square for 15 minutes now,' one X user posted on May 18, adding in a pair of follow-up posts that he was still going, minutes later. 'I'll use this time to talk about the absolutely insane information Tom Cruise gave in his pre-screening speech,' replied another. 'First, he asked us all not once but twice if we had popcorn (I showed him my bucket to confirm) and then he goes 'I normally eat two big buckets myself during a movie.'' On May 21, Cruise acknowledged the viral popcorn-eating moment during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show with Darius Butler, confirming he was not pretending to eat the popcorn. 'Man, I'm eating popcorn,' he said with a laugh. 'They know when I'm going to these movies that I'm watching, I'm eating popcorn.' This isn't the only time Cruise went viral thanks to the cinematic snack: In 2023, during the last 'Mission Impossible' press tour, Cruise posted himself saying six words that sum up the concession stand experience. 'I love my popcorn. Movies. Popcorn,' he said. So simple, and so true. This article was originally published on

Tom Cruise Eating Popcorn Is Going Viral
Tom Cruise is a whole It's been almost thirty years since hunky heartthrob Ethan Hunt (Tom) dangled from a ceiling in the first Mission: Impossible movie based on the 1966 TV series. The legendary leading man who's become a household name from the '80s and beyond is back in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Truth be told, my jaw is on the floor because the action sequences look more dangerous than ever before. But, to my surprise, doing death-defying stunts in your late 50s/early 60s in one of the highest-grossing and long-running series of all time is not why Tommy is going viral. Eight movies of Tom's unbelievable stunts —jumping from helicopters, running from explosions, leaping from tall buildings, dangling from more helicopters — and THE BIGGEST STUNT GOING VIRAL IS HIM EATING POPCORN! In a video posted by user @seifwtf on X, Tom went in on a popcorn bucket, aggressively flinging pieces into his mouth at the BFI IMAX Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018) screening. Tom also received a BFI Fellowship at the BFI Chair's Dinner, but all folks wanted to talk about was this single moment of him eating a bag of popcorn. People had hilarious reactions to Tom's high-octane eating popcorn-eating technique. One person said, "this is how my dad eats popcorn." This person suggested that "someone hand him heavier popcorn," and maybe that would help. I can't believe somebody compared him to a Nep-Enut from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. This user said, "I have got to change the way I eat popcorn." Someone else said Tom is "Just leaving mountain of popcorn on the floor in his wake," and I'm curious if this is true. I love the way this person incorporated Mission: Impossible lore into their joke. "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get it in your mouth, not on the floor," they wrote. "Man, I'm eating popcorn," Tom said, laughing. "They know when I'm going to these movies that I'm watching, I'm eating popcorn." Tom Cruise is serious about cinema and the movie theater experience; his popcorn practices are just an element of that dedication. You remember this 2023 promotional video for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning? In another viral video shared on X, Tom was urging a fan to "go get some more" popcorn since he ate it all before the movie began. One person asked, "If you've not finished your popcorn before the movie starts have you been been to the cinema?" Someone else suggested, "This dude can never go to the movies again. Just embarrassing," after being called out by Tom. Tom should make an ASMR channel where he eats different types of popcorn in different movie theaters. Based on the internet's reactions, it would do numbers.

‘I could have impale my skull': Tom Cruise recalls death-defying Mission Impossible scene, reveals why he kept harnesses in wardrobe
Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning made a stellar debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, even receiving a five-minute standing ovation. With this film, the team also said goodbye to the beloved franchise. Cruise's death-defying stunts at 62, his helicopter antics, and acrobatics born from 'decades of knowledge' of flying planes kept the audience hooked during the screening, even though the long runtime left some exhausted. Before that, the Hollywood heartthrob received the BFI Fellowship at the annual BFI Chair event and sat for a one-hour conversation, detailing every bit of his filmmaking passion that started when he was just four. Cruise spoke about how he moved from one rented house to another but kept writing his dreams in a diary. The actor also shared stories, giving us a peek behind the scenes, including a crazy moment when he almost seriously hurt himself doing a stunt. Also read: Tom Cruise gets emotional as Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning receives five-minute standing ovation at Cannes: 'The big-screen experience is why we do it Speaking to BFI, Cruise mentioned how he got involved with producing films, although he revealed he was more interested in how the movie was made. Mission: Impossible was the first film where he officially took a producer credit. According to the Top Gun star, the thought of producing the movie crossed his mind because he loved the original TV show's music and thought it would be cool to turn a Cold War spy series into a thrilling, action-packed film. The 62-year-old described how he's always been a 'physical actor' and that 'he studies movement and behaviour to make his scenes real and exciting.' Recalling an incident where he nearly impaled his skull, he described a running train sequence where he was standing above it after jumping from a helicopter. The cameras were close, and there were pipes along the track. Cruise recalls, 'there's pipes, you know, the rigging pipes are out there, and I was like, guys, I'm going to go—I might impale my skull on this pipe,' and no one had thought about stuff like that because the team was still learning and experimenting as they went. Also read: Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning advance booking: Tom Cruise's actioner expected to mint Rs 20 cr on opening day To master the stunt, not only did Cruise learn stunt skills and work closely with the camera team to get shots from up close, which was still pretty new back then, but he actually kept harnesses in his wardrobe for practice. According to the actor, back in the time, the harnesses he wore for stunts were new technology, so the team was still figuring out how to hide them under the clothes, and he took the challenge personally and came up with the idea to do it. 'The cables were very new, and we were all experimenting and testing, and I was like, I'm going to wear this harness in the CIA room, but that's also a harness that I used under my wardrobe. So I was developing how do we handle the wardrobe,' he said. During the interview, Cruise also gave a shoutout to his creative team, including Christopher McCoy and editor Eddie Hamilton, for turning his dream project into a phenomenal success. The new Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning just premiered at Cannes and hits theatres on May 23.

The 62-year-old sported sunglasses that look similar to those he wore as Maverick in Top Gun (1986) and Top Gun: Maverick (2022), as he attended the event for the latest instalment of the US spy film franchise on Wednesday. Waddingham, who plays Admiral Neely in the movie, wore a grey floral dress, US director Christopher McQuarrie, wore a pink suit and white shirt, while Cruise himself, who plays secret agent Ethan Hunt in the films, wore a crimson outfit. Pegg, who plays field agent Benji Dunn, wore an all-white suit, and was joined by French actress Pom Klementieff, who plays assassin Paris, and Hayley Atwell, who plays Grace, a former thief turned agent. Actress Angela Bassett, who plays former CIA director Erika Sloane – now the US president in the film – was also at the photocall, where she wore a pink outfit with a white top. The film, which is the eighth instalment in the series, follows Cruise's character Ethan as he risks everything to save the world from a rogue artificial intelligence. Cruise has performed a number of stunts for the film, which have seen him dangle from a helicopter and walk on the wings of a plane. He was recently honoured with the British Film Institute's most prestigious accolade, a BFI fellowship, describing the prize as 'absolutely extraordinary'. Speaking at the ceremony, Cruise said: 'The beauty of this art form is a collaboration and it tests everything we are as artists, as human beings. 'When we finish a film it's never goodbye, we'll see you again soon, so it's been absolutely extraordinary for me to receive this BFI Fellowship, it's been an extraordinary evening and I'm very grateful that you are all here. 'I've loved every second, it's an absolute privilege to be on set – people say why don't you take a vacation, but why would I take a vacation from something I absolutely love to do? This is the most fun ever.' Launching with Mission: Impossible in 1996, the franchise has become one of the highest grossing film series of all time, having been based on the 1966 US TV series of the same name, which follows the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) as they embark on an array of missions to stop crime and thwart hostile forces.
