Bihar Draft Electoral Rolls To Be Published Tomorrow: Poll Body Chief
New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Thursday said that political parties and electors will be given one full month to add names of eligible citizens or remove names of those they think are ineligible from the draft electoral rolls of Bihar to be published on August 1. In a statement to the voters, the CEC said that as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls of the state, the draft electoral rolls for Bihar are being published on Friday. Physical as well as digital copies will also be given to all the recognised political parties in Bihar in all the 38 districts by the district election officers (DEOs), Kumar said. "The chief electoral officer (CEO) of Bihar and the 243 electoral registration officers (EROs) will also be inviting any elector of that Assembly constituency or any recognised political party to come forward and give claims and objections from August 1 to September 1 for adding names of any missing eligible elector, removing names of any ineligible elector or correction of any entry in the draft rolls," he said. The CEC's remarks come amid continuous protests by the opposition parties against the SIR, claiming that it will deny eligible citizens of their to right vote for want of documents. They also alleged that the local poll machinery in Bihar could be manipulated by the ruling BJP-JD (U) alliance to its benefit. The protests have disrupted both Houses of Parliament on a daily basis during the ongoing Monsoon session.

4 attempts made to kill my son Tejashwi: Rabri
1 2 Patna: Former Bihar CM Rabri Devi made a sensational revelation on Friday, alleging that there were four attempts made in the past to "assassinate" her son, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav , and blamed these attempts on the "BJP-JD(U) people". Tejashwi, leader of the opposition in the state assembly, is considered the opposition INDIA bloc's CM face, although a formal announcement has not been made so far. "Tejashwi Yadav ko toh char baar marne ke koshish hua tha rasta mein…Yahan bhi marne ke koshis ho raha hai (There have been four attempts in the past to kill him on the way. Conspiracies are still being hatched to eliminate him in Patna)," Rabri told reporters in the portico of the Bihar legislative council. She added that Tejashwi faces serious threats to his life and they are very much aware of who is behind the conspiracies. "But none can silence the voice of the people," she said. Rabri levelled these allegations against her political rivals a day after the Bihar legislative assembly plunged into pandemonium during which opposition and ruling party members ran menacingly towards each other and almost came to blows, but this was averted due to timely intervention by the security forces. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like We Have No Words For Dog The Bounty Hunter's Transformation Cash Roadster Some RJD members alleged that during this scuffle-like situation, a BJP member uprooted the microphone from the table and ran menacingly towards Tejashwi with the intention to assault him, a charge denied by the NDA leaders. RJD sources said Rabri was compelled to raise the security issue of her son in light of some recent incidents where Tejashwi's life appeared to be "in danger". On July 10, a speeding car allegedly tried to enter his cavalcade on J P Ganga Path in Patna, prompting the police to arrest the driver. On June 29, Tejashwi narrowly escaped injury as a drone crashed into the podium while he was addressing the "Waqf Bachao, Samvidhan Bachao Sammelan" at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. He narrowly escaped again on June 7, when a speeding truck hit two vehicles of his convoy, injuring three security personnel in Vaishali district. Tejashwi himself said a firing incident took place outside his official residence at 1, Polo Road, which is considered a VIP area, last month.

'His Life's In Danger': Rabri Devi Alleges Conspiracy To Kill Tejashwi Yadav Amid Bihar SIR Row
Rabri Devi alleged that the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance was behind a conspiracy to assassinate Tejashwi Yadav amid growing protests over the controversial SIR exercise. As the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) continues protests over Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi made a shocking claim, alleging a bid to kill Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. While addressing the media, Rabri Devi raised serious allegations against the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance, claiming a conspiracy to assassinate Tejashwi Yadav amid growing protests over the controversial SIR exercise. 'We have been surrounding the Assembly since 5 days. The state government must respond… There have been four attempts to kill Tejashwi Yadav, and his life is in danger… The BJP and JD(U) are the ones who are conspiring," she said. Rabri Devi accused the BJP of snatching the people's right to vote. While the Election Commission insists that the SIR exercise is a routine, court-monitored process aimed at eliminating bogus voters, the opposition has claimed that it risks the disenfranchisement of millions, particularly migrant workers and economically vulnerable citizens who may struggle to meet document requirements. 'I know him since childhood… he used to do hooliganism at Boring Road. He used to harass girls at Boring Road," she said. Her remarks followed a heated altercation between Choudhary and Tejashwi Yadav in the Bihar Assembly on Thursday over the Election Commission's ongoing SIR process. The BJP leader targeted Tejashwi personally and said, 'Who are you? The one whose father is a criminal, what will he say? Get lost… you're a lootera – lootera… what will he say?" In response, Tejashwi Yadav said, 'If you speak too loudly, you'll get wet." The RJD leader later reiterated that the parties in the opposition alliance could boycott the upcoming elections in Bihar if the Election Commission's voter roll revision in Bihar was not stopped. The Bihar SIR row has been at the centre of opposition protests in the Parliament, resulting in five consecutive days of disruptions as MPs raised slogans and displayed placards demanding a rollback of the exercise. Elections are likely to be held in Bihar around October-November, as the term of the assembly ends in November. Bihar's Economy Under Nitish Kumar: Growth Amidst Challenges as BJP-JD(U), RJD, and Jan Suraaj Gear Up for High-Stakes 2025 Elections
New Delhi- Bihar, one of India's most politically dynamic states, is heading towards a crucial Assembly election in 2025 where the performance of the economy under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has become a key talking point. Since Nitish Kumar took office in 2005, the state's economy has witnessed remarkable transformation with its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growing nearly six-fold—from ₹71,000 crore to over ₹6 lakh crore. Massive investments in infrastructure, road networks, rural development, and social welfare schemes have been credited with driving this economic rise. Despite these developments, Bihar continues to face significant challenges. The state remains at the bottom in terms of per capita income, which is still just one-third of the national average. Unemployment is a major concern, with rates soaring to nearly 19% in recent years. Industrial development has lagged behind, and many youth are forced to migrate to other states for better employment opportunities. These economic shortcomings are at the center of political debates as the state heads to the polls. The ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance, led by Nitish Kumar, is banking on its record of consistent economic growth, improved infrastructure, better healthcare, and education reforms. Government schemes such as Jeevika, improved minimum support prices for farmers, and better connectivity in rural areas are being showcased as achievements. The alliance hopes to replicate past electoral successes by highlighting 'double-engine' development under the central and state governments. On the other hand, the INDIA bloc led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties is focusing on issues of unemployment, poverty, inflation, and inequality. Opposition leaders have accused the Nitish government of neglecting job creation and industrial development, despite impressive GDP numbers. They argue that the so-called 'Sushasan' (good governance) has failed to transform the lives of common people, especially in rural and backward regions. Adding a new twist to Bihar's political landscape is Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj party, which is steadily gaining ground. Positioning itself as an alternative to both the NDA and RJD, Jan Suraaj is appealing to voters who are disillusioned with traditional caste-based politics and the status quo. The party has focused its campaign on governance reforms, job creation, quality education, and anti-corruption measures. Kishor has promised a new vision for Bihar, one that moves beyond the past two decades of political rivalry. As Bihar approaches the 2025 Assembly elections, the state stands at a political crossroads. While Nitish Kumar's long-standing leadership is marked by undeniable economic growth and social development, deep-rooted issues like joblessness and low income remain unresolved. The outcome of this election will depend not only on past performance but also on which political force can inspire confidence among Bihar's youth, its large migrant population, and rural voters looking for real change. Bihar education system is ruined, the worst in the country under JD(U)-BJP government: Digvijay Singh
Ahead of the Bihar Assembly election due in October-November, Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader Digvijay on Sunday (June 29, 2025) slammed the Janata Dal (United)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the State for 'ruining' the education system in the State. Mr. Singh, while addressing the media at the party office in Patna, said that the government schools in the State are in a poor condition and the dropout rate is highest in the country. The schools don't have electricity, teachers, computers and libraries. He shared data from the school education report, UDISE+ 2023–24, of the Modi government at the Centre. Expressing regret, Mr. Singh said that this is the worst performance in the whole country. He said that out of 78,120 government schools, 16,529 still do not have electricity and only 5,057 have computers, a mere 6.5%. 'There are 2,637 schools in Bihar where there is only one teacher, and 2.91 lakh students are enrolled in these schools. At the same time, there are 117 schools in the State where not even a single student is enrolled, yet 544 teachers are posted there. Bihar also has the highest school dropout rates: Primary (Classes 1–5): 8.9%, Upper Primary (Classes 6–8): 25.9%, Secondary (Classes 9–10): 25.63%,' Mr. Singh said. In budget 2025-26, the Bihar government claimed to have allocated ₹60,954 crore for education but the truth is that this money is lost to corruption, he alleged. '1.13 crore not enrolled for higher education' 'The BJP-JD(U) government has ruined Bihar's future in higher education as well. The recent report of AISHE 2021–22 (All India Survey on Higher Education) has once again exposed the plight of higher education in Bihar,' Mr. Singh said. Sharing data from the report, he pointed out that GER (Gross Enrolment Ratio) was 17.1%, i.e., the estimated population of the State in the age group of 18–23 years is 1.36 crore, but out of these, only 23.33 lakh are enrolled in undergraduate programmes. He said that it means 1.13 crore youth are deprived of higher education. 'Bihar has the lowest number of higher educational institutions per lakh population in the country, with a total of 37 universities, 1,092 colleges, 315 standalone institutions, totalling to 1,387 higher education institutions; but this number is very low for the population,' Mr. Singh said. The Congress leader also said that there are only seven colleges per one lakh population, against the national average is 30 colleges per lakh, which is the lowest in India. 'Future of youth being auctioned' Speaking on exam paper leaks in Bihar, Mr. Singh said that the future of the youth is being bid upon and the paper mafia is in cahoots with the government. 'In Bihar, under the patronage of the BJP-JD(U) government, a dirty business of scams is going on in government recruitments and competitive examinations. In the last seven years, more than 10 cases of exam paper leak have come to the fore in the State,' he said. The network of 'paper mafia' which is tarnishing the glorious legacy of education in Bihar is becoming increasingly active and the business of these mafias is worth thousands of crores, he said. Mr. Singh listed out rates fixed by the alleged paper mafia for every competitive exams: for NEET PG – ₹70-80 lakh, NEET UG – ₹30-40 lakh, banking exam (bank PO) – ₹15-20 lakh, police SI – ₹25 lakh and police constable – ₹10-15 lakh. Earlier in the day, he called on Congress ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad along with Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh at Mr. Prasad's 10, Circular Road residence to enquire about his health.
